WILL AND KATE COOK IN CANADA

The kitchen was where Will and Kate chose to spend part of their time in Quebec, Canada.

US Magazine reports: “Bon appétit!

Just prior to jetting off to their next tour stop Saturday, Prince William and Duchess Kate took in an intimate cooking class at the Quebec Tourism and Hotel Institute.

Donning personalized chef’s whites for the 40-minute lesson, William, 29, and his bride, also 29, learned to make a variety of dishes, including an herb and cranberry-crusted lamb and a lobster souffle.

During the visit, William kept the kitchen staff laughing — all while trying to sneak in a few snacks. Pretending to pinch strawberries from a bowl and dipping a spoon into melted chocolate for a taste, the Prince eventually became a bit impatient while waiting for his dishes to cook.

“Is there a time limit?” he asked. “Is it like [BBC TV cooking show] Ready Steady Cook? Do we eat as we go? I’m quite hungry!”

Elsewhere in the kitchen, William’s bride seemed more focused. Student teacher Theresa Rindress guided the Duchess through a recipe for an amuse-bouche of foie gras on a toasted brioche roll with apple cider jelly. “I showed her how to hold the knife and position her hand so that she did not cut herself. She was fantastic,” Rindress told reporters of her chef-in-training. “She was very competent with the knife.”

While some of their items fell flat during the end-of-class tasting, William was able to impress his cooking teacher, Jean-Louis Themistocle with one dish. “This is the best cucumber I have ever seen,” the chef beamed after the royal produced an amuse-bouche of goat cheese, baby cucumber and elderberry jam.

Heading to Quebec Sunday, the couple will continue their tour of Canada with an inter-denominational service on board the HMCS Montreal and a visit to La Maison Dauphine. They will also attend the Freedom of the City Ceremony at Quebec’s City Hall.”

THE OBAMAS GIFT WILL AND KATE APPLE PRODUCTS FOR BASKETBALL KIDS

Six Apple notebook computers to PeacePlayers International were the gifts that Barack and Michelle Obama gifted Will & Kate as a late newlywed present. The organization utilizes basketball to improve, enhance and motivate the lives of children and bring together communities in communities that are divided by conflict.

Apples in a halo hoop then. Quite creative really! Has Steve Jobs got the Obamas on payroll, or what?! Prime product placement that Kiwi Digi-Pukapuka Notebooks Inc could only marvel at garnering. Oh, that’s right. Here in New Zealand, we haven’t yet got around to creating that company just yet. ;)

ROYAL WEDDING CAKE DEMOCRACY by PRINCE WILLIAM AND KATE MIDDLETON

The Sydney Morning Herald is doing way too much (again!) today running a fun story about Kate Middleton and Prince William opting to have two wedding cakes on their special day.

The first cake will be a traditional fruity cake, with white icing and white floral ornaments on it. The second wedding cake will be a family favorite of Prince Williams made of dark chocolate icing, crumbled tea biscuits and some other things.

Sounds like guests will get to choose their choice of wedding cake democratically on the day of the most watched televised event in world history, April 29th, when Will and Kate tie the knot.

I think I’d keep with the childhood favorite option too and go for the chocolate cake. What about you? Click on top pic to see some of the world’s finest cake makers in action.

The best cake’s of course are shared at privately owned beaches in the form of picnics with special friends. Maori people in particular love serving white slices of coconut cake after freshly seared entrees of beach fresh scallops kaimoana, on our beaches to guests with a squeeze of tahitian lime (just a hint mind), as a reminder that coastlines are like the edges of a cake, never to be eroded by over-eager guests.

Today though, the Prince could possibly be a slight bit hung-over. According to E News Online, via Claridge House spokespeople, it was believed that for the royal bachellor party celebrations, these mostly occurred on water. Whether the water was lakelands or coastal sea terrains, no one knows yet for sure.

The report states that “The 28-year-old and a princely posse of 20 friends spent the weekend racing motorboats, waterskiing and then going on a floating pub crawl before ending up at a country manor.” Sounds like a right royal blast. Creative.

Watch the clip, for a fun story. :)

PRINCE HARRY, MASTER OF STAG DO CEREMONIES, HAS BEEN WORKING HARD

According to the UK Sun, Prince Harry Windsor, 26, has kept his elder brother guessing what is in store for the stag do before the big royal wedding where 2.4 billion people are expected to watch.

A source is said to have told The Sun: “They would have held it closer to the wedding day of April 29, but William was keen to make sure there was a big-enough gap before the big day.

“Harry has planned the stag do in great detail.”

Sounds fun. It’s happening today.

A TOP SECRET ROYAL STAG PARTY – PRINCE WILLIAM PARTIES THIS WEEKEND

According to US Magazine, A royal aide tells the rag that “this weekend will mark the start of the boys-only jolly: “It’s top, top secret but the dates have been marked off in the diary and security knows every detail. For privacy reasons we can’t reveal locations, but there will be plenty of booze and some legendary activities.”

THE ROYAL “LICK ME” STAMPS GET RECALLED DUE TO BIRTHDAY DATE BUNGLE

It was a very sweet idea for the New Zealand Postal Service to issue a range of “lick me” products, for customers of a royal theme to send their mail with.

Unfortunately, you can try your darndest to be sweet, but sometimes genuine mistakes, muck ups and bungles happen, as this story shows.

The pack, which sold for $19.90, was released this week but included the wrong birth date for the prince in the text.

Instead of the correct date of June 21, 1982, the pack said Prince William was born on May 21.

The mistake was not on either of the two $2.40 stamps of Prince William and Kate Middleton released yesterday by NZ Post but in the text of the presentation pack.

The “lick me” products go on sale again in packaged form, when the error has been amended. What a crazy country at the post box! Love it. Getting mail for months with royal wedding paraphernalia stamps is a Kiwi tradition. Go here to see that in effect. :)

KEEPING IT CHILL WITH WILL AND KATE, THE ROYAL WEDDING FRIDGE

Lo and behold, G.E appliances 5’9” side-by-side fridge – special edition for the royal wedding.

Want to prepare a meal for your loved ones? First get bombarded with images of the royal couple! Craving a midnight snack? Let Will and Kate stare you down! Need to change the Brita filter? Be reminded of how the young royals would never do such a thing!

“As expected, the royal wedding has really captured the U.K.’s imagination and it was no surprise that a William and Kate commemorative fridge was a popular choice,” said David Garden, Commercial Director for GE at GDHA. “It certainly wipes the floor with your usual commemorative tea towels and mugs and is most definitely one of the most novel royal wedding products we have seen.”

That’s nutso. It would make the best champagne fridge though. Or, a beer fridge for having the mates over during rugby football matches too.

PRINCE WILLIAM’S TOUR OF AUSTRALIA IS LOW KEY AND GRASS ROOTS

“He’s a lovely man, he’s very understanding. He’s just such a very special, down-to-earth human,” said Marilyn Hilan after meeting Prince William Windsor on Tour of Australia in Grantham. Her Lockyer Valley farm was devastated by floodwater. “It just shows the family is headed in a more down-to-earth direction that he wants to communicate with everyday farmers like me.”

Prince William’s tour has included earthquake-damaged Christchurch and cyclone- and flood-affected communities in Queensland and Victoria.”

They Sydney Morning Herald notes ‘a grassroots revival of the monarchy in the colonies, Prince William’s disaster tour has undoubtedly been a success – at least in Queensland.’

As a Kiwi writing from Los Angeles these facts are true:

1. Christchurch is in Aotearoa New Zealand, a separate nation entirely to Australia. This journalist got confused with this fact.

2. Prince William is a part of New Zealand culture. He is a part of us from the day he was born, to today. His mother made sure of this fact. From a Maori cultural Kiwi perspective we include in the concept of whanau (family and extended family). This means once you cross the threshold and we accept you, we own you as family forever. Australia is warming up to that idea, many have appeared to have forgotten, obviously. We live in a world where alliances must be clear and strong. It’s not an option. But it’s always better to willingly choose to remember allies and their descendants. When we get Commonwealth ‘family’ sorted we are more likely to enter into a genuine concept of global family as well. Kia ora Australia!

PRINCE WILLIAM PRAISES ESTEEMED YOUTH CITIZENS IN CHRISTCHURCH, EMPATHIZING WITH GREYMOUTH FAMILIES LOSS TOO

Prince William Windsor was choppered into the grounds of Hagley Park in Christchurch City where he praised a “student army” of volunteers for doing “a fantastic job.”

Christchurch’s young have worked tirelessly at cleaning up the earthquake devastation since the City’s 6.3 quake.

Obviously these esteemed youth citizens life experiences in moving on quickly amidst devastation, makes these youth leaders unlike many pampered Western young people today. They now have skills to be mentally fit in highly pressurized devastating circumstances. Their reflexes to act and not remain in shock are skills many youth need to develop in the world today.

In Christchurch City, these esteemed youth citizens of a modern world are rebuilding their lives. To read more about their amazing life experiences and stories of survival, check that out at the Official Christchurch newspaper, The Press – one of the best journalistic newspapers I’ve ever read, right here. Their archives are full of stories of these amazing young people’s attitude and zest for life and living.

Yesterday, Will spent time with Greymouth Pike River Coal Mine families who lost family members in a gas explosion in a fossil fuels mine. Meeting in Shantytown, resident Bernie Monk said ”He’s a down-to-earth person. It was humbling, really… he kept reiterating he knows how it feels.” More on that story can be read here, also via The Press.

A HEART-WARMING PRINCE FOR CHRISTCHUCH AND PIKE RIVER FAMILIES, NEWS – 3.9.11

Press Release via Otago Daily News & Hollywood for Christchurch City, Photograph via NZ Herald:

“Prince William will make a special visit to Christchurch to pay tribute to the victims of last month’s devastating earthquake, but bride-to-be Kate Middleton won’t be joining him.

St James’s Palace today announced the prince would attend next Friday’s national memorial service to mark the quake on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II, and would also visit Greymouth to speak to the families of the Pike River Coal mine disaster.

Prime Minister John Key this afternoon welcomed the announcement.

“This is a heart-warming gesture that will mean a lot to the thousands of people whose lives have been forever changed by these events,” he said.

“I would like to personally thank the Queen for thinking of New Zealand in its darkest hours and very much look forward to seeing Prince William again, even though it is in very sad circumstances.”

A spokeswoman for Mr Key said Price William’s fiancee, Kate Middleton, would not be joining him on the visit.

The prince will arrive in New Zealand the day before the service at Christchurch’s North Hagley Park before flying to Australia on March 19, where he will visit parts of Queensland hit by the recent cyclone and flooding.

Prince William last visited New Zealand for three days in January last year, when he opened the new Supreme Court building in Wellington.

The full itinerary for his upcoming visit will be released closer to the time.

Mr Key’s spokeswoman said the PM still planned to attend the royal wedding at Westminster Abbey on April 29, at which 1900 guests are expected.”

PIERS MORGAN DOES PRESS FOR WILL AND KATE’S ROYAL WEDDING VIA ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY

Wow! I can’t believe US magazine Entertainment Weekly has succumbed to Royal Wedding action, here in Hollywood. Indeed, it was inevitable as the most watched piece of TV set to romance the world via The UK will attract more viewers in the World than the Super Bowl or The Oscars.

CNN‘s Piers Morgan plays UK Herald with his thoughts on why America should watch Will & Kate‘s nuptials take place. Says Piers, “Americans are absolute suckers for royal weddings. When Diana and Fergie got married, you guys lapped it up. Every tiny second that you could squeeze out of it, you squeezed.”

It’s interesting that the non-Royals are the big draw, to keep the Royal family’s star hot on the tele, as Piers puts it. But wait, the Brits have more in E.W to contribute:

“These days, so much has to do with what people are wearing, like the royal-wedding version of the Oscars in terms of, you know, who’s got the best hat, who’s got the worst dress,” says Glen Marks of the U.K.’s leading photo agency Rex Features.

“It’s the whole story as well, so not just what’s going on with William and Kate, but it’s the referral back to Charles and Diana and the saga everyone can’t get enough of.”

Whatever the U.K wants America to believe with this story, we’re on board in Hollywood. It’s just swell to see a young couple take marriage seriously. Got to be good for instilling faith in love, commitment and romancing in a new generation of kids watching these two pleasant kids walk down the aisle.

Will is always a favorite with Maori-Kiwis of New Zealand. His late mom, Diana, chose to associate Will’s first ever appearance to the world as a babe, in Waitangi – a historic site in the first Capitol home of Aotearoa New Zealand. To see Prince Williams as a babe at Waitangi, go here.

Will you be watching this event in April?

ALL OF THE LIGHTS LYRICS – KANYE WEST feat RIHANNA and FRIENDS

What the kids of Hollywood are digging at the club right now: All of the Lights is all good in the hood. A catchy tune from Mr Kanye West feat Rihanna, Alicia Keys and Sir Elton John.

The documentary realism technique works a treat too in this music vid.

All of the lights (all of the lights)
(Lights, lights)
All of the lights (all of the lights)

[Rihanna]
Turn up the lights in here baby
extra bright, I want y’all to see this
turn up the lights in here, baby
you know what I need
want you to see everything
Want you to see all of the lights

THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – FRI 2.18.11

Prince William and Kate Middleton continue to amuse at US check out aisles. Their latest US tabloid flaunts a wedding like Will’s mom, Diana‘s. Poor Charles. :)

I was thinking today, how much we have in America to be thankful for. A lot. If we live in the US in community, we know that we have each other. That’s awesome. The diversity here in Los Angeles is amazing. Like a sea of twinkling stars from many nations, reflected in the pulse of Hollywood. It’s humbling to be a part of the ‘class’ in 2011. Not that Hollywood is a school per se.

I’ve really enjoyed it so far. It’s been a privilege to be here, interact with American people in Hollywood and dream a dream with Americans towards better and noble things. I believe in the best for America, of America, and with America. It’s in my Maori-Heart to be pro-USA.

I don’t know how many Americans have put up with me some days, but I am very thankful that Hollywood and beautiful California, has. Thanks Cali. And thank you all worldwide for your support of this blog.  :)

ROYAL ROMANCES BEATING GLOOMY TIMES

“There’s a public infatuation (with royal weddings) that you wouldn’t believe,” French commentator Stephane Bern says, who has covered dozens of royal nuptials. “There is a real public desire for these sorts of events, a willingness to beat the gloomy times.”

So true!
