Any film that deals with grief and loss in a global economic crises will be award worthy. Twilight actress Kristen Stewart‘s upcoming role in Welcome To The Riley‘s with Sopranos great, James Gandolfini tackles the topic of grief and how complex it can manifest itself onto others as people hit by grief try and grapple with loss and make sense of it all.
Gandolfini stars in the lead and Stewart plays his Elizabeth Shue styled female lead (aka Leaving Las Vegas part II) in this film. The movie plot line goes like this:
“Mallory is a 16-year-old stripper who agrees to Doug’s proposition of being paid $100 a day for him to stay at her apartment in Baton Rouge and get his head together (read: no sex, no strings, no problem). Doug is struggling to cope with the death of his daughter eight years before, and begins to try to turn Mallory into his surrogate daughter. When Doug’s wife Lois (Melissa Leo) follows her husband south and completes the picture, Mallory rebels against them as teenagers are wont to do.”
Says Kristen Stewart of the role, while people will go and see a small Indie film of this nature. Their motivation to go will be: “Oh lets go see Bella in this stripper movie; it’ll be crazy!”
And with 100 million plus fans in the world… they just might. This could be Stewart’s first Oscar nominated role. Good luck honey. You’re a talented complex star of the new Hollywood. A gutsy role to take on. The film has been submitted to Sundance.
Let’s hope the role fairs well for Stewart. Leaving Las Vegas, garnered both Elizabeth Shue and Nicolas Cage Oscar nods, but it was always the bloke that walked away with the Oscar. Can Stewart be Gandolfini’s big Oscar hope? Or will she snatch the Oscar herself? That is the question, both a great and worthy actors.
