PASTA ENTITLEMENT – ITALY IS EATING THEMSELVES AND THEIR MOMMA’S STOVE LABOR, THROUGH UNSUSTAINABLE SELF PITY

The worst luxury one can delude oneself to feel in tough times, is the deceptive one, of self pity. You just can’t afford that emotion. It’s too taxing.

Today we learn from Italy, about how vital community is – and yet how bonds of community made up of family-based culture, can also be exploited by spoiled brats. (joking). However, this is italy’s story today, if you do the math.

Writes Stacy Meichtry for the Wall Street Journal, “On a recent Sunday in Rome, Daniela Varano and some friends lunched on eggplant parmesan whipped up by the 33-year-old publicist’s mother.

Mom, meanwhile, was 500 miles away in Bovalino, a small town in southern Italy. Despite the distance, [where items are transported overnight] she does what it takes to spoil her grown daughter with home-cooked fare.

“The umbilical cord was never cut,” says Ms. Varano’s 61-year-old mother, Lina.” Daniela maintains when she eats and shares her mother’s food with friends, “I’m maintaining an emotional link with my family.”

Stacey also notes, “Jobs for young Italians are scarce—particularly in Italy’s poorer south—forcing people to migrate north to big cities, leaving their mothers behind. In Calabria, on the toe of Italy’s boot, 52% of Italians between the ages of 15 to 64 were “inactive,” or not working or studying during most of 2010, according to Italy’s official statistics agency ISTAT. Authorities say Calabria is also home to the ‘ndrangheta mob, a drug trafficking syndicate that maintains a stranglehold on the region’s economy, starving the area of jobs.”

Rather humorously, the story of Italy’s doting mothers ends with this view of their independent kids, ‘A high-school teacher, Mr. Natale has been receiving Sunday deliveries [of food] for eight years. He deeply misses his mother, he said, but “there is no going back.”‘

Perhaps these mothers of Calabria, need to see ‘the world as their children’ and export vacuum packed products to China, America instead. I mean Calabria/ California… that has a good ring to it in this age of Jersey Shore culture taking the USA by storm. Now there’s a thought to really help their kids and grandchildren out as matriarchs of Italia grounded in reality too. For Stacey’s story, go here.

7 THINGS – HOLLYWOOD – 3.30.11 @ 8.30pm

Mason Disick shines as a tot whose not camera shy. And Kris says kids should be “working at 13 with real jobs.” Hers she says have been. Read the story at Oh No They Didn’t!

Seven things we’re sharing in Hollywood in this moment are -

1. Fighter jets nondisclosure & Canada’s government topples

2. Wendi Murdoch steps up to make Hollywood more relevant

3. Hell – The Rugby World Cup is going to be good this year

4. Jeremy Irons new TV series intrigues to date

5. Learning from 1975 ethics leaders in the nuclear energy & electricity department

6. IT guru, Kevin Kelly talks “flow” as a key trend of IT convergeance – with paid access

7. Lionel Richie & Guy Sebastian will remake a classic for a good city in recovery

Seriously though, Kris’ point is parents creating jobs for their kids, who then create jobs for others is a guaranteed way to help an economy out. For example Kim employs a bunch of people in Hollywood with her online marketing endeavors in fashion accessories etc. They’re an industry employing locals here in Cali.

For that the Kardashians have a point. Families have to make it happen. This lot are.

KATY PERRY’S MOTHER, MARY PERRY HUDSON IS A PREACHER, WITH A GIFT OF HEALING

True humility is to be known for the gifts that you have and to serve them into the world.

Guest Commentary from The Huffington Post (actual writer not named, sorry!): Singer, Katy Perry makes the audience rise out of their seats, but her mom wants her delivering sermons, not songs.

Mary Perry Hudson, Katy’s mother, is a California preacher who sees a different career path in her daughter’s future. She and Perry’s father, who is also religious, raised Perry in a conservative, religious home. Now, Hudson is shopping a book about raising Perry, and the NY Post reports that excerpts have been leaked from the proposal.

Seeing Perry in concert, Hudson writes that she envisioned her daughter not as a singer, but a “Kathryn Kuhlman type of healer.” Kuhlman was a famed evangelist and faith healer.

“I recognized the psalmist gift in her performance,” Hudson wrote. “Yet she sang out, ‘I kissed a girl, and I liked it,’ while thousands joined her. One part of my heart soared… the other part broke for the thousands of hungry souls being fed something that didn’t nourish their spirit, but fed their flesh.”

Perry, who in 2001 released a Christian pop album under the name Katy Hudson, has spoken about her faith on numerous occasions, describing herself as a work in progress. She spoke with a number of publications in 2009, including Beliefnet.com, which reported her take on her evolution.

“And I was raised with certain ideas, like you mentioned about what the Bible does say. But I definitely am now, as an adult, and in a whole new world, in a world I didn’t even know existed, I definitely have different perspectives and am very much not a poster child for anything perfect or organized or cookie cutter. I have had my own relationship and my own beliefs and I’m continually on an upward search with all of that, and I really don’t know the answers nor do I like to impress them on anybody else.”

The book proposal also details Perry’s mom’s disapproval of her cleavage-showing performance outfits, as well as her displeasure with her daughter’s fiance at the time (now husband), Russell Brand.

Thanks Huffington Post for this diverse story. For more on Hudson’s book proposal, click over to the NY Post. Photo from the HuffPo too. Photographer unknown.

This is my ‘you can’t choose your parents’ story of the day. Jk. Parents are works in progress too, thankfully.

In light of events in the world, The Gift of Healing is a useful gift. Everyone has gifts. Healing is one, that some people have been given. We need to see this give manifest more in the world. The gift of healing manifests strongly (along with doctors medical knowledge, expertise, skill, research funded new knowledge too) coming to the forefront in the world as well, simply because there is a new need for the gift of healing to be stronger. We live in such times and it is a very practical gift to help and equip others.

Kathryn Kuhlman’s gift made people want to worship her. She took great pains, to make sure they didn’t adore her, but looked to the Giver of the gift. In the past, faith healers have gotten this part wrong, and have used the gift to make money, live lavish life styles or, to have people over-adore them because of their gift. A faith healer is oddly never allowed to be a celebrity. They are not entertainers like Katy Perry has a gift to entertain. True faith healers have healthy self esteem yet they are not allowed to be celebrities. Humility must go with any gift we as flawed people are given (or not).

From a publicity angle, this is a good strategic move too. Suzanne Hinn‘s story of heartache married to a faith healer she recently split from, regularly rates on this blog each week in the top twenty posts. Quite unusual really Suzanne does. Kathryn Kuhlman was a famous divorcee, who rose above the stigma of her divorce and her own personal heartache that almost killed her, to let her gift still operate through her to facilitate healing and help others. She loved God more than anything else in this world and she helped thousands of people who were physically and spiritually sick, get well.

Like Perry, Kuhlman was an American national treasure and a great. As dramatic as the most eccentric actresses of theater. When she appeared she resembled a ghost.

KIA KAHA-ISM AND CURBING THE DEBT DEMON, LOCKING ASSETS IN SAFE KEEPING WITH A HUMBLE KEY

Not everything appearing as a Saint, is–C.S Lewis (all that glitters isn’t gold).

Would you sell the cricket bat in a nation’s hand? Or the rugby field from under their feet?

Living in humilty is to not live in delusion. Wisdom resides in humble people, who have an ability to recognize that fame is a mirage that only a minute few project. It is not reality for majorities of most people. Because humility recognizes this, in between navigating the quick sand fleeting mind fields of passing fads, humility is a spiritual protective force field around a nation’s future. Staying grounded on solid ground you still at best are a steward of, ensures a secure future for people you lead is to Stay Strong as a leader.

We call this art of humility Kia Kahatanga of financial management in New Zealand.

Future generations will praise such a leader who has this spirit. Fame is a demon. It seduces people into living short term. The wise think long term. Having been seduced in the past, I know this first hand and seek to help in this area.

We learn from mistakes. We need to learn quicker.

Debt is a demon. A nation’s assets in this current crazy world economy, perhaps need to be locked in a trust of safe keeping, under a key.

Vampires (sharks… whatevz you want to call them) swirl around freedom’s ramparts shores. And crawl over the green grassed hills and forrests of ‘home.’

Public demonstrations are all the rage. They are a sign of Demon.St.Ration at work. Seeing people live on coupons one loaf of bread at a time is debilitating. That’s not good leadership. It’s orchestrated mismanagement being pimped off shore. It needs to be curbed. It’s not freedom, it’s enslavement.

Democracy is being eroded. Culture is being sold. People of the future are being sold in this process to these narratives of potential enslavement. It is the nature of spend and debt to enslave. We must stop it. Asap.

This post can also be read in tandem with this post too (there’s a very good article to the New York Times cream of journalism from a veteran’s wise perspective observing the selling of America as America’s top journalist shares good insights of learning from America’s own life experiences).

ELIZABETH TAYLOR’S QUICK BURIAL, FORREST LAWN – LAID TO REST WITH MICHAEL JACKSON’S REMAINS, CALIFORNIA – HER LEGACY OF LOVE- 3.26.11

From the UK Daily Mail comes these reports of how Dame Elizabeth Taylor was laid to rest today.

The 79-year-old actress only died of heart failure on Wednesday but a combination of her Jewish faith – which she adopted in 1959 and which demands speedy burial – and her family’s evident desire to avoid a media circus for once in her life ensured her burial took most people by surprise.”

She was laid to rest in the same resting place as Michael Jackson was, her good friend.

Taylor’s four children from three of her seven husbands – Michael and Christopher Wilding, Liza Todd and Maria Burton – as well as most if not all of her 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren were believed to be present.  Read the rest of this entry »

DARREN ARONOFSKY BOWS OUT OF DIRECTING THE WOLVERINE FILM

Darren Aronofsky one of Hollywood’s golden directors this year, has bowed out of directing Hugh Jackman in The Wolverine (a spin off film franchise of X Men films).

Aronofosky sights being away from his family for more than a year abroad (outside of the US filming this flick) as not being as important as being in the US with his family.

He seems to have a good perspective on the fame game and what’s important with work-life balance to him as a director. Nice one. Let’s hope Jackman and Twentieth Century Fox, find a good replacement director as good as Darren.

The greatest problem of bullying in America is economic bullying. All other bullying and kinds of bullying behavior, are a reflection of what’s happened to the average American in this economy.

I like Mrs Obama’s words on “compassion” being needed.

JAMES DURBIN WOWS HIS KIDS ON BROADWAY PRODUCER, IN ‘DANGEROUS’ AMERICAN IDOL PERFORMANCE

“If you had told me back in 2006 that he would be doing this on ‘American Idol,’” said Daria Troxell, the producer of Kids On Broadway’s Singin’ in the Rain, which starred a then 16-year-old Durbin, “I wouldn’t have believed it. This is just amazing,” said Troxell as American Idol’s judges called James “dangerous” talent this evening.

Above is James singing Maybe I’m Amazed. His voice is pure leading lad, rock n’ roll. Strong. Go James.

Read more at Mercury News.

James original audition for the reality TV talent show can be viewed below too. HIs dad died of a drug overdose, sadly. James is all about shedding light, beyond heartache with his music gifts, about being a good partner to his Mrs, Heidi and being a good dad as well. That’s very cool. Go James!

DESTROYED BY DADDY – LIKE JON VOIGHT, BILLY RAY CYRUS PLAYS DAUGHTER’S HOLLYWOOD VILLAIN

Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus news: In Hollywood, if you shine, you will get torn down. If you have a villain, they play the enemy while the public play your supporters. This tactic was key in creating Angelina Jolie into an American megastar. Jon Voight her dad, was her first villain, then she followed this up with Billy Bob Thornton playing her villain husband too. As therapy, she played Jennifer Aniston‘s villain, but ultimately Jon Voight playing Jolie’s villain got her off to a good start.

From the pages of Hollywood 2nd generation star guide to megastardom then, Billy Ray Cyrus plays Miley Cyrus‘ villain dad, claiming that Disney destroyed their family. While Star Magazine parrot this tabloid dirt. Us Weekly recycle Star’s idea running with a “Destroyed by Daddy” line. It’s very Mommy Dearest, with a gender reversal. A mother of a family, is sort of who earns the most for the family. In the Cyrus clan, Miley is like a mother, while also having a very sweet mom as well.

Let’s see how this angle goes for the Cyrus whanau (family). I like them. They are good people. Extremely sweet, with thick, weathered cowboy-cultured show biz skin. A winning combo.

MOTHERHOOD AND WIFE ARE THE GREATEST ROLES, NATALIE PORTMAN’S OSCARS ACCEPTANCE SPEECH 2011

OK! Magazine like most tabloids goes to great pains today to showcase, Oscar winner and Jerusalem born artist, Natalie Portman‘s Awards Show acceptance speech. Exquisite, graceful, gracious with no ego. What a Hollywood rarity Ms. Portman is. Here’s Portman in action.

“I want to thank my parents for giving me the opportunity to work from such an early age. My beautiful love, Benjamin, who has now given me my most important role of my life,” she said. “Most importantly, my family, my friends, and my love, thank you so much.”

Family is what Portman does. The rest is well… show biz and art really. A good speech depicting all the elements that make up a Hollywood star in a filmic role. Wow! What a lady.

SOME VINTAGE RUGBY FOOTBALL HERO NEWS – MICHAEL JONES, 1991, FROM HOLLYWOOD

Michael Niko Jones is a kid I grew up with some school holidays. Here’s Michael with a rugby football in hand from back in the day as inspiration towards more fun Hollywood entertainment.

Talofa from Hollywood, South Pacific peoples.

Jones is rather famous for being a skilled basketball player of West Auckland, who switched sports codes to rugby football, becoming one of the greatest rugby football players the world has ever witnessed create magic on the football field. The knowledge he learned in basketball equated to quick reflexes and Jones opened up the game of rugby football with good athleticism and an ability to create play with his star football team mates like few had seen before Michael Jones showed them how the game of rugby football could be played.

He is described by many as “The Greatest rugby football All Black player” of last century–according to Will Carling of London’s sports rankings. Some say Colin Meads and Sean Fitzpatrick were better players than Michael, but I’m with Will on that one. Jones was the best. That’s quite a title.

Michael however had the nickname of being ‘The Iceman’ because of the cool, calm and collected way he played rugby football and the number of ice packs he needed at any given time, for his injuries, because when you’re talented, you’re also the man people try and hit and take down, which was Jones story of survival as a sporting great of New Zealand culture who was much loved in South Africa too as a star.

Personally, I never knew MJ as a star in a hero role. His sister Cathy was. An amazing singer. And Michael’s brother Derek was too, for being just the coolest guy who offered leadership to the greats we grew up knowing and serving. This in Polynesian communties (via Samoa is called the Matai role of a Chief in community, and Derek served in that role, so that Michael never had to and could just get on with sports pursuits).

Derek is the dad of Kalani Jones of Aotearoa, New Zealand. But the biggest star in Michael’s family was undoubtedly his mother, Aunty M. Her funeral, when she passed away (while on a holiday safari in Kenya with our friend Anita) was the second most attended funeral of any New Zealander in history at the time. None of us were surprised when she had such a fan club show up to her send off. She was just an amazing person, like a great light to so many in her community of West Auckland City. What she taught us all was that compassion is a gift, that gets stronger if you’re faithful to it and to serve it into community with Spirit.

Aunty M was full of joy, laughter and compassion – and we all adored her and Uncle Jim. Post the Oscars with a Natalie Portman and Tom Hooper Oscars winning night as I write this story from Hollywood, I guess you can say Michael Jones is like these new stars who paid tribute to their folks for their successes. MJ is great because like these two names mentioned, Michael had an amazing mother. At best, perhaps he wanted to grow up and make her proud. That he did making an entire nation proud of him too.

You might just get to see MJ in a coaching role for Rugby World Cup here in the USA (if he can be bothered to still turn on a show – he might!) when NBC Universal/ Comcast live telecast the rugby world cup for the first time in US history, in October 2011. A TV sports moment not to miss.

HOT CENTENARIAN NEWS – HELENA ATAYA TURNS 100 VERY SOON

I can’t believe that the beautiful Helena Ataya, our family’s Lebanese “Sitty” of West Auckland is about to turn 100 soon.

She is the great oak of Lebanon once planted in West Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Best friends with Elizabeth Cruickshank my war-widowed great grandmother and adored by my namesake Sam Sasser, a revolutionary footballer of the USA who lived on Marshall Islands archipelagos with his wife Florence and his two children Renee and Terrence. Sam loved Helena and her late husband George Ataya – a man full of laughter and joy – known as our ‘Jitty’ who had spent time in Egypt before arriving to New Zealand years ago.

Quite the dazzling light, Helena Ataya is loved be everyone. She is also much loved by the Smith and the Jones families as well, of Oak Ridge days.

She’s amazing and I love her! Go “Sitty!” Much love on your very special upcoming day.

Six generations of our family would have known her and her beautiful Kiwi-Lebanese family on her birthday. Sitty’s smile and sense of humor has always been sweetness and light. She’s always been the coolest!

Psalm 1 - They are like trees that grow beside a river, that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not dry up. They succeed in everything they do.”

VICTORY QUOTES FROM LOFTY EMANUEL, NEW MAYOR OF CHICAGO -2.22.11

Community grass-roots leadership rhetoric, looks good on Rahm Emanuel pictured here with his family.

“We have not won anything until a kid can go to school thinking of their studies and not their safety. Until the parent of that child is thinking about their work and not where they are going to find work, we have not won anything. Tonight we are moving forward in the only way we truly can. Together, as one city, with one future,” Rahm Emanuel said taking the 55% majority win as Mayor of Chicago today.

Reports The Huffington Post, ‘Emanuel will replace outgoing Mayor Richard M. Daley, who has held the office for over twenty years. But many speculated that his spectacular failure to win the 2016 Olympics for Chicago, coupled with the debacle surrounding his lease of the city’s parking meters and the generally catastrophic state of city finances, led him to believe his political muscle was running out.’

Today however, Emanuel endures the trials he’s faced to stand and lead as Mayor of Chicago, home of good zucchini fries.

Reports The Hill today, ”I want to extend my congratulations to Rahm Emanuel on a well-deserved victory tonight.  As a Chicagoan and a friend, I couldn’t be prouder,” President Obama said. “Rahm will be a terrific mayor for all the people of Chicago.”

I think that’s awesome. Chicago needs populating. I think when Emanuel talks ‘security’ or ‘safety’ in Chicago, what he must mean is that people need to feel comfortable in Chicago to endure the windy weather of this city in winter. Getter people over this fact of life in this City is Emanuel’s biggest challenge perhaps in his leadership strategies towards growth.

Everyone I’ve met from Chicago here in LA are down to earth, honest, and humble people. Good sorts. Numbers are down in the city by 10% to what Chicago has known in previous more booming years, based on the last census results, so Rahm’s youthful-family focused energy to grow this City, could be put to good use making it a good town for Americans to want to live in. Go fela!

Fun winters in Chicago! I wonder what ideas Rahm and team will come up with, to keep this great city vibrant and growing with a strong future. With Oprah Winfrey‘s move to California this year, the need to keep Chicago, top of mind, with an entertainment window falls on Emanuel’s shoulders. Thank goodness, Rahm has a Hollywood agent bro, in show biz, so that shouldn’t be too hard for Chicago’s new Mayor, to develop new entertainment projects under his wings of new leadership.
