GARY LEWIS AND LADY DAVINA HAVE A ROYAL WEDDING TO ATTEND

Maori lad, Gary Lewis, a member of the British Royal family who is married to Lady Davina daughter of Prince Richard Duke of Gloucester will attend the Royal wedding when he celebrates his cousins-in-laws family wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

the  has been lucky enough to nab an invite to attend the royal wedding, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

TGary 37, is also nicknamed Gazza. He is a cabinet maker and was once a shearer from the Matokitoki Valley of Gisborne. He is a nephew of much loved Maori novelist Witi Ihimaera. Gary once lived with his wife, Davina in Grey Lyn, Auckland for a time after the couple married in 2004.

Grey Lyn is where authentic urban Polynesian culture is created each week in the world.

Garry will celebrate New Zealand’s contingent of wedding guests. He will be joined by Governor-General Sir Anand Satyanand and his wife, Lady Susan, and Prime Minister John Key and his wife, Bronagh – formerly of Christchurch, now of Helensville West Auckland.Gary’s Mrs, Lady Davina is 24th in line to the British throne and very down to earth and funny, I hear via the Ministry of Scottish Butler Services (a royal family tradition to enlist Scottish Butlers) of the late Queen Mother. Incidentally, the Queen Mother once had quite the tea schedule throughout her day, when she was alive. Fierce! :)

Gary is of the Te Whanau-a-Apanui and Ngati Porou centries-old  Maori tribes of Aotearoa New Zealand.

WHO EVEN KNEW KATIE COURIC WAS 54?

Katie Couric is 54! She looks so much younger.

My favorite news person, along with Bob Herbert‘s Op-Ed writing in the New York Times once, is expected to announce she is leaving her position as anchor person on CBS Evening News. The AP say, Couric is about to launch a syndicated talk show soon. Woot! Her empathy outshines her outstanding journalism. I’ve always appreciated these traits in Katie in the USA.

Go K.C!

GENTLEMAN QUARTERLY COVERS OIL UNDER ICE – PRINCE HARRY WINDSOR FOR THE WALKING WOUNDED

Ten things about Prince Harry Windsor‘s GQ Magazine cover’s, accompanying interview for war veterans awareness and sacrifice.

Hiking for charity is a royal thing to do:

In a world exclusive for the May issue, GQ meets Prince Harry and the Walking with the Wounded team as they prepare for their epic unaided trek to the North Pole, in an attempt to raise £2 million for charities focusing on the retraining and rehabilitation of injured British service personnel. Arctic experts give some of the disabled war veterans a 40-60% betting odds chance of completing the ambitious mission for a noble cause.

Who exactly is in the star line up of this Nanook of The North styled trek it out Posse?

Prince Harry is Patron of Walking with the Wounded, and the team comprises Captain Guy Disney, Private Jaco van Gass, Sergeant Steve Young, Captain Martin Hewitt, Founders Edward Parker and Simon Dalglish, Logistics and Training Guide Henry Cookson, and Polar Guide Inge Solheim.

Paid modeling for charitable causes is a royal thing to do as well for family traditions of charity. Chalk it.

Harry and the team were photographed by David Bailey in January 2011. A special edition front cover [pictured] will feature HRH Prince Harry, with a donation from each issue sold going to the Walking with the Wounded charity.

What frozen landscape sets can teach us about human rights beyond despair of the human price of war for veterans.

Founder Edward Parker comments of the wounded servicemen selected from the 100-plus injured who applied to undertake the challenge, “These four guys knew when they went toAfghanistan that they could get killed or wounded. The political whys and wherefores are not what we’re addressing here. These men are soldiers; this is what they do; it is their job. But what happens when they can’t go back to the day job through physical or mental injury? What happens to these men and women? We must not forget about them. They need assistance, support, money.  They need help realising that, yes, their options have changed – drastically – but they can still have an impact they can still very much lead full and prosperous lives. These wounded personnel have immense courage; more so than ever before. The four guys going to the Pole with Walking with the Wounded are just the veneer on the wounded community; it is up to us and this expedition to show there is a future. If by walking 250 miles across a frozen landscape, we can inspire one disabled serviceman to lift himself up off the bed, or out of a wheelchair, or out from the depths of hopelessness, we have done our job.”

Gratitude as a trait of brotherhood. Not taking an individuals personal sacrifice to serve others lightly.

Royal Patron Prince Harry, who is joining the other eight men on the ice for up to a week, said in a message of support: “This extraordinary expedition will raise awareness of the debt that this country owes to those it sends off to fight – only for them to return wounded and scarred, physically and emotionally. The debt extends beyond immediate medical care and short-term rehabilitation. These men and women have given so much. We must recognise their sacrifice, be thankful, so far as we can ever repay them for it.”

Norwegian Nordic Austin Powers sense of humor in tricky drifting conditions of navigating the Arctic world on top of the ice capped oil rich terrain.

Inge Solhiem, the expedition’s Polar Guide, adds “Harry’s training has been going very well: he has the right attitude. I’m sure Harry has healthy concerns about the dangers – as he should. You have no idea how different the pole is from everything else on the planet. The old Norwegian explorers called it the “devil’s dance floor”. It is unpredictable. Deadly. If you’re not paying attention it will just slap you… You can walk ten miles in one day, pitch your tent overnight, and the ice will have drifted you back eleven miles in the opposite direction.”

Jaco van Gass on Afghanistan as a door

Private Jaco van Gass [pictured, right, with Capt. Guy Disney], who lost his left arm (as well as almost two-thirds of his left leg tissue), is one of the chosen team. He says “I knew what I was fighting for out there. I wasn’t just doing what the army told me to do, I wanted to be there. I loved my job and I still do. I loved every second of it and that’s why I don’t regret what happened to me. There’s not a day that goes by now when I don’t think about Afghanistan and wish I was back out there; my battalion, the Parachute Regiment, is out there now, out on the front line.  I know that door has closed, but new ones are opening. I am ready for these new challenges; I am ready for the future.”–Excrutiating injuries.

Veteran Injuries have greatly increased dramatically for UK soliders

The number of single, double and triple amputees and severely injured soldiers returning from Afghanistan annually has risen dramatically since the war began in 2001. Figures from Defence Analytical Services and Advice (DASA), part of the Ministry of Defence, mirror the numbers compiled by independent charities for limbless service personnel, and the news is shocking. Look back as far as 2006 and the number of UK servicemen who sustained partial or complete limb amputation that year in Afghanistan as a result of injuries sustained was seven.  In 2007 it had reached 12, by 2008 numbers were up to 30, come 2009 and 55 were recorded and by the end of 2010 this annual figure had risen to 76 troops who had suffered “traumatic or surgical amputation” of one or more limbs.  No one has any doubts this figure will rise again in 2011. From the period 1 January 2006 to 15 January 2011, 1,608 UK military and civilian personnel were admitted to UK field hospitals, categorised as Wounded In Action, as part of operation in Afghanistan, whereas 248 were categorised as Seriously Injured and 235 Very Seriously Injured.

I hope these lads take some Afghan Biscuits with them. Afghan biscuits help your skip along when hiking. One shouldn’t hit the arctic without them in your pack. They’re chocolate biscuits made with (skippy maybe) cornflakes in them. Perfect for hiking, like scroggin biscuits add strength with triple New Zealand butter and a dash of sugar via Fiji with extra dark chocolate lashings of icing for good luck and good measure.

The full feature from Walking With the Wounded expedition appears in the May issue of British GQ, out 31st March. Proceeds from this special issue, with two collector’s edition covers, will be going to Walking with the Wounded.

DEMI LOVATO TALKS PARANORMAL ACTIVITY

Teen Demi Lovato, confesses today that she believes in Paranormal activity.

When you think about it, if you believe there in God, you are saying that you believe in paranormal activity. God is spirit.

Demi though is talking ghosts today – in her zany paranormal activity way. I just like Lovato’s cheeky grin. She’s a fun kid.

Demi is pictured here at Disneyland (a repeat pic on this blog) as she tweeted last week. A FUN place to take the family and kids here in California.

ACTOR IRENE GEORGERIAN IS A SWEETHEART OF LA

She was flustered and running late for an audition

because everyone whose anyone does at least

three different things in L.A.

So as to bolster her up from the bully that

had knocked her esteem through the floor boards,

I smiled and said hello.

Then her frown became a smile

and the world became less dark

and if she doesn’t get that audition

now her smile is back on her dial

then this town made of mirrors needs to

quite possibly “see the world in a different light.”

Los Angeles say hello to Irene Georgerian. She’s a sweetheart. Here’s her card.

ADEL OF MOROCCO STRESSES THE IMPORTANCE OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION, MEETING CONSULATE KIWIS IN BOISE IDAHO AND DELI BAR FRANCHISING

Adel is from Morocco. He’s a chef whose been cooking for twenty-odd years now. One day when Adel was cooking for studios at Hollywood parties, he’d also fly across to Idaho for the Marriott hotel chain’s finest parties they used to throw in Boise.

One night the New Zealand consulate (based in Brentwood, California) was promoting New Zealand’s fine travel destination virtues and food produce in Idaho, when the New Zealand chef ate MacDonalds that day. He got food poisoning and could not cook for 600 guests that night.

Adel was in town and got the gig in Boise, thus saving the day. The event was a huge success serving up New Zealand beef and lamb. Always delicious meat. Since then Adel has been a friend of the New Zealand Consulate here in L.A. He’s also a new friend of mine.

What I like about Adel is that he stresses that at some point all people should seek to increase their knowledge of how finance, stocks and bonds work. Since he’s grown in financial knowledge himself, life has gotten so much better for him. He invests all of his money in oil, gold and oil and steel and more gold and then oil. Did I mention that Adel invests in gold and oil? – yet he still works too with his hands each day.

These days Adel doesn’t cook much but it is in him to cook as Morocco peeps like New Zealanders (Kiwis) must always be cooking tasty food, especially with quality meat. Adel gets up at 4am and reads up and checks his stocks related news. By 7am he is at his restaurants in L.A. His big focus is working up his Deli Bar franchise prototype deli/ beer bar, so that it can fly US nationwide.

Adel is very calm and uses his time wisely. Unlike me. Yet we are good buddies who share stories of where we came from before we hit L.A. He gets a kick out of worthy people getting more financially versant in financial knowledge, so that life becomes better for them. Thanks Adel. Adel reads novels on his Kindle each day between 2-3 when he can. People who read books in Hollywood, are always quite cool, I’ve found. Rock on Morocco in LA!

MEET SANDRA WINEBARGER, OWNER OF CELEBRITY ACTORS CAMP

Sandra Winebarger, whose momma is from Guatemala and whose dad is from Puerto Rico. This All-American girl owns the Celebrity Actors Camp young actors training outreach.

She tells me, “Our camps are mainly run outside of California, Orlando, Spokane, Miami and Oklahoma. We do a six week camp out there, and then we invite them to pilot camp here in Hollywod, introduce them to agents to be represented here and go on auditions during TV pilot season. They’re learning and we teach them about the business. Most of our kids don’t even live here, they’re from out of State but with our help we guide them to find a right fit with the right agents and studios, that suit their talents and the opportunities on offer.”

Her spirit is insightful, encouraging and sweet. If you’re a young American wanting to walk inside the pages of Hollywood as an industry town, Sandra Wineberger is a fun guide.

COURTNEY MCCONNELL SHARES FIVE TIPS ON HOW TO BE A MECHANICAL ENGINEER

Meet Courtney McConnell of Irish-American lineage. Courtney is a Hollywood girl currently studying to be a mechanical engineer at CalTech Pomona.

Almost at graduation, Courtney shares five tips on what it takes to make it as a mechanical engineer from the Entertainment Capitol of The World.

On redefining fun: I hit the books instead of the clubs.

On discovering one’s inner Hollywood geek factor: I have to like long hours at the library.

On making life count in one’s career: I want to contribute to society in a way that will be technologically evident for future generations.

On opting to be a smart scientific girl: Bridging change as a woman in this industry, is something I’m totally committed to being a part of. You have to be present to make change.

On ‘what drives your passion’ to be an engineer? For any engineer that is a multi-faceted question. I do want to contribute to science, and I do want to pave a way for other women coming behind me, and I also am passionate because I am proud of myself and I really think education is really, really important in science and technology. These are some factors that fuel me to be me, when pursuing mechanical engineering. In engineering it’s all about having the right fuel. That’s where we’re heading in thinking green technology and I love that green technology focus in my study and work. It’s definitely hot.

Courtney’s self-confidence comes across very graciously. She’s going to be a star of the engineering field.

[Thanks Court!).

NATALIE PORTMAN’S GOLDEN GLOBES ACCEPTANCE SPEECH WAS SO GRACIOUS

When you look at Natalie Portman as a rising star, you can’t help but have a sense that Nat just “get’s it.” She speaks several languages including Arabic and she’s so humble and gracious when she is given an award. As an artist and a person, she is prepared to cross-over and dialogue in others culture not her own. Stellar and intelligently normal stuff!

When she takes the stage, Natalie Portman’s tone conveys the weight of Hollywood’s history and the opportunity Hollywood provides as a global platform to serve the world well with a spotlight. Her spirit was pitched right on the night. Loved her! That Benjamin Millepied is one very lucky newbie actor, choreographer and ballet dancing guy! Portman is an Israeli global treasure.

She honors the creative process and has respect for her collaborators in it. It’s also amazing that Portman was ten years planned ahead with Darren Aronofsky for this golden moment – revealing how stars are made as well as born through talent and sheer hard work with amazing visionaries as supporters of artists unique gifts and talents – guiding stars like Ms. Portman through the maze that is Hollywood.

For all of you fashion victims (joking – I meant enthusiasts of art and beauty in garments) obsessing about Nat’s dress and hand embroidered red rose covered with Swarovski whatevers, Grazia Magazine has some quotes from Nat’s stylist, Kate Young that can be read here. Young muses ’Natalie doesn’t have a lot of patience. But… Natalie is beautiful and poised. It’s an opportunity to make the most beautiful pregnancy dress on the red carpet.’ Portman’s gown was created by Viktor & Rolf.

Here’s highlights of Portman’s beautiful speech.

CLEAN DRINKING WATER FOR ALL

1 Fact: 1 billion people do not have clean drinking water. Where: Africa and India are most affected.

The threat: More people are lost in the world through this situation than war.

The solution: We can make a difference through UNICEF Tap Project. If you want to, please do.

True fact 2: For as little as $10, one person can have clean drinking water for a lifetime.

That’s like a beer at a Hollywood club with the tip. Amazing aye! Act. Bump this post on too. Let’s flow. :)

THE HORIWOOD TOP TEN – CHRISTMAS EVE – 12.24.10

“Our cup overfloweth with joie de vivre to share with others”–motto for 2011 onwards.

This Christmas Eve is the month where a Maori Hollywood entertainment celebrity blog made history and hit the 2.8 million threshold thanks to you all worldwide. That’s never happened before in Hollywood’s entertainment history. Hawaii takes the top spot as both the 44thPresident of America and New Zealand’s Prime Minister vacation at the tropical jewel isles location of the USA.

Here in California this artwork at the Wiedeman gallery photographed in Hollywood this eve, reminds me of the umbrella I’ve been living under while living here in Hollywood California to date. Very French with a Hollywood twist. And Jakey Davis shines with two of his biggest fans, sister Taylor Jane and his mom, teen mom’s champion life coach - The Maori Rose of Sharon across the world in New Zealand. It’s all about children and their world we help and support them create. As you can see, I’m on Jakey’s program as he’s already busting out his Peace sign moves for photos, so fine like already, on a Kiwi beach. Too cute.

Hollywood entertainment and celebrity news on Christmas here in the Hollywood hood as voted by you the people worlwide. Here’s how we’re looking in our top ten today. Merry New Zealand Christmas and Happy Hollywood Christmas Eve. Thanks people.
