LIBYA’S PEOPLE AT TUNISIAN-LIBYA BORDER THIS WEEKEND – 3.5.11

Looking at this picture of Libya’s people at the Libyan borders of Tunisia is a reminder to never take democracy for granted. Systems of dictatorship can cause all of this turmoil. We have them too, here in America in economic fields, (the turmoil caused is the exact same thing), but this image is a reminder that democracy and liberties of human rights are not everyone’s at all times.

Wow! I see some Americans realities in these peoples faces. Yet… what can we do?

Meanwhile US planes are evacuating Egyptians who are fleeing the Libyan conflict.

I guess ‘fugee awareness is US on this blog this month. It’s a pleasure to be involved.  :)

ANGELINA JOLIE’S STATEMENT FOR LIBYA, TUNISIA, IVORY COAST, AFGHANISTAN REFUGEES

Photograph by J Tanner.

From Kabul, Afghanistan, Angelina Jolie is a team member right now, committed to her role as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for refugees.

In a statement that Jolie has issued via the U.N., African nations of Libya, the Ivory Coast, (or Cote d’Ivoire’s) political turmoil and unrest, Jolie allegedly has said:

“As we witness these newest crises unfold in west and north Africa, it is critical that all parties respect the fundamental right of people in danger to flee to safety—whether civilians caught in conflict in their own country or refugees and asylum seekers caught in new conflicts,” Jolie said. “All I’m asking is that civilians be protected, and not targeted or harmed.”

Jolie asks the world to address this moment, adding, “We have to give people safe passage, evacuation if needed, and ensure they have asylum. We don’t want to look back and find their deaths are on our hands.”

The U.N. has also issued a joint appeal with the International Organization for Migration for a humanitarian evacuation for people trying to escape Libya for Tunisia, Ivory Coast and Liberia. Angelina’s two day excursion to Afghanistan focuses on inspiring hope with refugees who are still trying to reintegrate almost 10 years after returning from exile. That’s quite a story, each one of these people have.

UZBEK NEEDS OUR LOVE

80,000 Uzbek refugees need our love. This report from the NY Times touched my heart tonight.

“KARASU, Uzbekistan — “I have three children — 9, 7 and 4 years old — and they are just in shock,” a woman named Ursanoy Mamadaliyeva said on Monday. “My youngest said to me, ‘Mama, if we return to Kyrgyzstan, then you have to buy me an automatic weapon.’

“Do you think that that is normal?” she asked. “The child is 4 years old. And he says, ‘I am also going to shoot.’ Is that normal?”

Tears welled in her eyes.

“I don’t want my children to live like this,” she said.” Heartbreaking. Courage To Love Uzbek is needed. Sending a prayer from L.A to Mother’s and children… like a rainbow. Here’s Cyndi Lauper

To make a difference if you want to and to touch a heart, go here

ANGELINA JOLIE’S ITINERARY IN ECUADOR

This one for the conscientious reader on Horiwood.Com, who specifically asked what Angelina Jolie‘s itinerary was in Ecuador as a part of World Refugee Day awareness.

This from the Huff Po: “QUITO, Ecuador — Angelina Jolie has journeyed across rutted jungle roads to a village on Ecuador’s border with Colombia to highlight the abuses suffered by women and children refugees.

The actress and U.N. human rights goodwill ambassador returned for the first time in eight years to a turbulent region where thousands of Colombian refugees live.

She ended her two-day visit Friday with a meeting in Shushufindi with President Rafael Correa and other senior government officials.

THANK YOU AGAIN

MangoIceScreamTooAngelinaJolieBradPittKnoxJolie-PittVivienneJolie-Pitt

… for making horiwood.com grow today 10.21.09. It’s the third day in a row, you’ve all smashed October’s viewership record on the first Hollywood blog ever created by a Maori New Zealander. (Kia Ora!)

Many thanks. xox

If you’re feeling generous and would like to donate to the plight of Iraqi refugee, victims of war, go here to Iraqi Refugees Speak to make a difference. Again, many thanks.

To read about how war can be quelled in the Middle East, read this romance novel, Courage To Love by California author Robert Ellis. It’s both simple and yet profound. Buy it this gift-giving season and give it to family and friends to further world peace. Because peace is a gift that must be passed on. You know it! :)

ANGELINA JOLIE – AN ANGEL FOR WAR’S REFUGEES

The soul at its highest is found like God, but an angel gives a closer idea of God.  That is all an angel is:  an idea of God. ~Meister Eckhart
