Christchurch Mayor Bob Parker urges people to be calm and stay away from the city’s center, due to aftershocks damage as 65 people are dead in Christchurch City at the time of writing. Picture via The Australian newspaper.

Via Canada’s The Globe and Mail, we learn – “In the aftermath of the earthquake, those searching for missing loved ones are turning to social media.On Twitter, people posted frantic messages under the hashtag.

“I can’t find my sister. No contact since before quake! HELP! Jessica Teale= petite, dark hair, dark eyes, boyfriend= Andy Copeland,” one woman wrote in a series of tweets.

Google set up a website to help locate people affected by the earthquake. The Google Person Finder allows users to search through more than 5,000 records, both of missing people and those who have since been found.

Under a posting for information on Elliot John Carl Smith, a woman posted: “Elliot is fine, have spoken to him.”

So sad. Good to see that Elliot Smith is okay and his sister has peace to have been in touch.
