The Hollywood Reporter‘s latest casting updates reveal that Bruce Greenwood has been cast in the ABC drama pilot, The River, from Oren Peli, the writer of Paranormal Activity.
The River is a drama that focuses on a group of friends and family members who embark on a quest for a famed adventurer and TV personality who goes missing in the Amazon, with his crew members. Each member, however, has their own motivations for doing so.
Bruce Greenwood will play Emmet Cole. He joines Lone Star actress Eloise Mumford as Lena and Across the Universe‘s Joe Anderson as Lincoln.
Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Peli are producing The River. Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. DreamWorks TV and ABC Studios are financing the project. Jaume Collet-Sera an unknown director is lined up to helm this pilot.
Greenwood starred in J.J. Abrams‘ Star Trek reboot, Barney’s Version and Meek’s Cutoff and Dinner for Schmucks and Mao’s Last Dancer, The World’s Fastest Indian, I, Robot, Rules of Engagement and The Riverman and Thick as Thieves. On the TV side, the veteran actor has recently appeared in John From Cincinnati. He has the features Cristiada and Donavan’s Echo on tap. Bruce Greenwood is repped by Gersh agency.

This thought being presented in Hollywood today for the land of Hobbits and their Oscar-holding creators and auteurs of Middle Earth to mull over. Namely Sir Peter Jackson and Sir Richard Taylor with casting lenses of wisdom and foresight worn in New Zealand, to grow existing and new talent and film markets from New Zealand shores showcasing all of New Zealand’s diverse potential in film growth to our economy. Jon Runyan, a former pro football Eagles player and now the Republican nominee of the New Jersey 3 District, standing against freshman Rep. John Adler (D-NJ), has added his voice to the recent constitutional jurisprudence of GOP candidates — listing the 1857 Dred Scott v. Sanford Supreme Court decision as a recent case that he disagreed with.
As the Asbury Park Press reports, from a debate last night: “Jon, it’s a different branch of government, but can you give me an example from the last 10 or 15 years of a Supreme Court decision in which you strongly disagree?” Adler asked.
“That I strongly disagree with?” Runyan asked, pausing for a moment to consider the question. “Dred Scott.”
There was some laughter in the audience.”
Hilarious! 1857. Jon Runyan is too funny. As a once-footballer, Runyan, a man who possesses a great sense of sporting football humor, with pace and position, denotes that the real “p” word needed is patience while referencing the jurisprudence system. 1857 references. His sense of humor, is very similar to that of a Maori’s. He is too funny and worthy of a mention today. Loves.

Today I am thinking about Camille Paglia‘s stinging rebuke of today’s generation. It was like Paglia removed all of her uptight social graces and put down her trendy shade of lipstick lesbian journalism, and opted to show the world her knitting needle points instead, when she wrote:
“their own voices have atrophied: they communicate mutely via a constant stream of atomi[z]ed, telegraphic text messages… they’re not attuned to facial expressions.”
If Camille is a writer of the established guard, then how do new writer’s break through to an emerging audience, who has these traits, knitted in to their technorati-evolved and morphing constantly with Apple, like consumer mini-me children of Steve Jobs, social media souls?
Thankfully, Kristen Lamb, author of We Are Not Alone–The Writer’s Guide to Social Media had written some good and basic commonsensical analysis about J.J Abrams writing fundamentals in the Star Trek reboot film franchise film script. Read that here. (Screenwriting 101, but God bless Lamb anyway for trying).
However, when Kristen Lamb asks is the message: Must new writer’s have a social media platform, to get off the blocks? She totally got my attention.
The answer is, yes. Lamb emphasizes: “Writers! It is never too soon to begin building your platform. Kristen Nelson at the Nelson Agency recently told one of my students that her agency will not sign any writer who does not have a solid social media platform. That trend is sweeping publishing. Time to get prepared the right way.”
In the meantime, here’s a picture of Zoe Saldana, as inspiration of how to write, cast, direct and produce, once you have signed that agent, from your social media platform, with a good script idea and winning screenwriting technique. … Up! …

Rainn Wilson is an actor that excites many people of my generation here in Los Angeles due to his quirky entertainment themes appeal that Rainn delivers in deadpan comedic manner. Here’s ten things about Rainn.
1. Rainn Dietrich Wilson is happily married to fiction writer of the book, , Holiday Reinhorn. The couple love living in L.A.
2. Although Rainn grew up in the intellectual-attractant city of Seattle, Washington, it was Illinois that drew Wilson’s love of unusual reality when he set out for college. He is a graduated of New Trier H.S. in Winnetka.
3. Being an over-achiever, Rainn went on to graduate from NYU’s Acting Program, after brief stints attending Tufts University and the University of Washington too. We learn from Rainn, that you can never study enough.
4. Off-Broadway was where Rainn chose to hone his once-graduated talents for many years.
5. Rainn is a practicing comedic member of the Baha’i faith.
6. Wilson first came to global attention after slogging his talents off for many years in TV and film. His breakthrough role as Arthur, the quirky love interest to the much older Frances Conroy, in Allan Ball‘s hit TV series, Six Feet Under is what brought him to, even New Zealanders far away from Hollywood’s attention.
7. However, Rainn says that his favorite role to date, is his Hollywood statement role, that being playing the role of Bill Harris in the film, Gettin’ the Man’s Foot Outta Your Baadasssss! (2003). Too funny! Rainn is so Hollywood.
8. Rainn originally came to Los Angeles with a theater piece he written titled The New Bozena, where very little is known about this play.
9. The brother can play the clarinet and the bassoon. Musicality and teamwork in music has always been a passion of Rainn’s reason to entertain audiences.
10. Rainn’s son, Walter McKenzie was born in 2004. The rigours of parenting, perhaps gave Rainn the motivation to create his most loved work yet, his blog: Soul Pancake.Com–where Rainn is asking the hard topics like: Does the News create action or just ignorance?

[Pilgrim's Progress 2010 from my place]
I promised earlier today, that I would post the pic of the Scott Pilgrim film’s billboard that I can spot from my place in Hollywood.
Being positioned in a rather quircke creative and fashionable, yet literary, medical family in L.A, I guess I’ve gotta get my freak on–and entertain American-Maori styles. Because to do anything less, is not how we roll. We’re creative and we entertain.
So, here’s that billboard with the extra edition of Kiwi-Maori lad Karl Urban of Star Trek fame for your entertainment. There’s nothing Coy or McDonalds about Karl. He’s the man.
The point of this post?

When asked at Comic Con conference in San Diego, about whether J.J Abrams was staying on to direct the Star Trek rebooted film franchise’s next film sequel, actor Karl Urban, who plays Dr. McCoy told Collider this:
“Knowing J.J. I think he will have a pretty tough time handing this baby off to someone else. He was such an instrumental force of nature in delivering that film and creating those characters and ensuring that the Star Trek that was released was not some vacuous special effects extravaganza and that it was a character driven film. My hopes are that he will come back to the director’s chair.”
Karl is pictured here promoting Red at Comic Con with his costars Dame Helen Mirren and Bruce Willis. Urban also confirmed to Bleeding Cool, he has been hand picked to step into the shoes of the upcoming South African filmed, Judge Dredd in the title role. Karl also tells Steve “Frosty” Weintraub of Collider:
“I’ve met with Pete Travis, Andrew McDonald and we’ve had a really wonderful meeting of the minds and long story short, they have offered me the role and we’re in the process of making that happen. To have the opportunity to play such an iconic and enigmatic character as Joe Dredd is a phenomenal opportunity and I’m really thrilled and looking forward to getting into it. Joe as a character has great ironic witty one liners set in this futuristic post apocalyptic world.”
He’s such a Kiwi bro, this guy. I guess I’m always proud of Karl as a New Zealand born Californian, because he’s always done good work in small budget Kiwi films and on New Zealand television series too, like Xena and Hercules as well as big budget New Zealand and Hollywood films.
Karl also happens to be distant family, a cousin-in-law, whose married to my first cousin Aroha‘s daughter. Ironically, (like a lot of Karl’s early work is based on irony entertainment) “aroha” happens to mean in the Maori language “Love” and I help promote an important book called Courage To Love by author Robert Ellis, here in Hollywood – a book with a good message of Peace for the world.
Following Red, Karl will next star in another comic book adaptation film called, Priest. Karl plays the villain, a vampire named Black Hat. An interesting acting career in Hollywood is about playing good guys and bad guys. It’s always good to mix it up, like Karl is for Priest. But he’s most famous for being J.J Abrams star doctor in Star Trek these days, with a legendary following from New Zealand’s Lord of The Rings Oscars winning legacy he brings to the Hollywood table from the land of green paradise, down under. Kia ora bro. Karl is also part indigenous Maori blood too.

Today we celebrated the one and only, Miss Elliette‘s birthday. Her biggest fans as far afield from Hollywood as New Zealand, called in to wish her a special day.
For the Lady of California responsible for pioneering Chiffon couture, that dressed the 50 states of America, the Middle East, Princess Dianna and Asia, for being America’s Chiffon Angel with courage, finesse, color, beauty and elegant flow we salute you, on your birthday as our living legend of Lady Liberty’s grace. Along with her sisters, daughters, nieces and family, Miss Elliette is American Chiffon Fashion Royalty.
For any American woman, who ever entered the world of business with a fashion label, Miss Elliette is their original Architect.
To celebrate her birthday and her many gifts in her life that she gave to the American people as an artist, here’s a woman that reflects Miss Elliette’s same spirit as a working mother, who also conquered with determination, passion, hard work devotion, excellence, focus and elegance. But wait–even before this poster has come out–Lady Gaga lifted it off Twilight and put Spock’s wig on all of her male actors to make her point about the future for her Alejandro music video. The theft (or ‘sharing’… whichever way you look at it) of symbols and symbology–is what generates and drives fans to take their hard earned dollars to movies, to buy music and to follow celebrities to happily part with one’s dollars–for the studios who they represent.
Wake up people, Kellan Lutz is really a bloody blonde. I love this City for the way they throw a football around so quickly. She’s a quick fame game these days. And in Hollywood, it kinda sucks to be the football! Spock wig = football. So its best to get in on the game. :)
Again… the best marketing in Hollywood is being done by Summit Entertainment and HBO’s True Blood series… with Lady Gaga being one of the quickest pirates who drives a fierce symbols generating show, quicker than her pop star peers can. Even after four years, I still love learning how celebs and record label peeps do it.

As Dolphins in the Bay of Islands, New Zealand are an icon of “forgiveness, healing, prosperity and good fortune, ” I thought this image was a powerful one of strength to beam out today in Hollywood (Star Trek Kiwi styles), in the wake of Jesse James and Sandra Bullock‘s marital woes. Because all couples find at best, they’re only human and inspiration is needed to continue on a journey of love.
So for any couple who have ever known the art of forgiveness, (or who may be choosing to know this art of love in a deeper and more real way) to heal the worst of hurts that can threaten a couples partnership, marriage and relationship; here’s a good message:
“To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you. ~Lewis B. Smedes“
Let’s hope Sandy B and Jesse James’ spirits wax strong in love, like these two beautfiul creatures pictured above.
By the way, the best place to go for honeymooners and couples needing some R n R together is the Bay of Islands in New Zealand, where the dolphin is King and Queen of this beautiful tourist resort township made up of 144 beautiful Islands in a warm seaside playground. Check it out, if you feel you could benefit from a jet-a-way vacation with the one you love.
Every Oscar winning actor, should be given a two week vacation for two, [alongwith that golden beaten tinsel trophy shaped in a man's image], to the amazing Bay of Islands, to watch dolphins play well together to ensure some married Oscar winning stars, can uphold family and romantic values at some point. That would be both fun and wise, the best kind of fun and glory of all. :)
The true path forward of any A-List star in the world is to Star Trek a path forward of forgiveness–Horiwood
