STRIKING THE ROCK OF APATHY – CLEAN DRINKING WATER FOR ALL KIDS OF THE WORLD

Sometimes I feel like a waterfall in West Hollywood, that just won’t stop. Where the water comes from within the spirit that feels dry, jaded, tired on grey winters days, ironically on days when it pours with rain – I don’t know.

One thing I do know, is that 2 million innocent children, die each year in our world, on our watch, regardless of what flags we wave above our heads, or what parades we have under them for whatever reasons to gratify our own sense of worth and identity. While our flags flap around in the wind, the lives of these children do too and many die because they don’t have access to clean drinking water. They get sick, their lives and their potential in this world are cut short.

Sometimes I wish, that people who are told and even say themselves that they are Kings & Queens would rise up like the legend of Moses in a dry desert, and take the wooden staff of their generation’s destiny and dare to strike the rock of greed, of apathy, or blindness, of entitlement, of nationalism, of hatred, of extreme and costly ‘paper gangsta’ capitalism, of those attitudes of detachment masked in those nonhuman words ‘that’s them and not us,’ of leader’s pride, human blind spots and prejudices; and our own too judging these leaders who are at best, mirrors of ourselves that we elected in many cases (or, the flip side too of letting go of the paralyzing and crippling fear of extreme loss and grief that inevitably follows in that degree of sudden loss too, it’s all the same constructed coin)–and these royals of the earth would say “enough, let these children go free” and cause water to flow to children they don’t know, whose parents they’ve never seen, whose dreams are more real than us at times or our bank balance or the figure we are told of our paper worth or lack of, or the excitement in our allocated and imagined carbon credit worth too. We are so green thinking these days!

[Excuse the Kerouac-esque lack of punctuating all proper, in that last paragraph].

Then I realise, sh*t, these Kings and Queens are on this blog everyday. They’re you and on a good day – I could be in your good company too. On a good day. Giving the gift of water to someone else is perhaps the most powerful thing we can do in the 2010′s. One of the true signs we have actually evolved with all of enjoyment and claims of new technology et al that have radically changed our lives. Giving water and saying to someone else, “I love you and you are much loved” are two simple yet vital things we can do each day.

MOVIE HOBBIT WOOL by DANIEL RADCLIFFE AND EMMA WATSON

I’m sure some people will see me as Harry Potter forever and I’m truly fine with that, says Daniel Radcliffe about his decade of playing the boy wizard over eight films. I could so see Daniel playing a hobbit too. Or a villain, just for variety in his next film.

He has an audience like very few 21 year olds can claim and both Dan and Emma Watson, just keep getting better onscreen with each film. So talented.

EMMA WATSON

Emma Watson covers two December Magazines for the Brit fashion world, namely Marie Claire and Brit Vogue. Here’s ten quotes from the Brown University student, studying in America.

On being an action figure: “It was unbelievable seeing me as an action figure! In a few months, toddlers all around the country will be biting my head off!”

On J.K Rowlings writing: “Hermione uses all these big long tongue twister words. I don’t know what she’s going on about half the time!”

On plugging J.K’s books: “It’s important to read because it’s really good for your [vocabulary]. It’s really good for your imagination. I enjoy reading because I find it relaxing.”

On iconic Hollywood movie, required staircase scenes: “I didn’t know there were so many ways you could walk down stairs until the day we filmed Hermione’s entrance into the Yule Ball Hall.”

On taking the p*ss out of yourself: [Looking at my earlier work?] “Oh… It`s like baby photos… I look like a chipmunk!”

On Los Angeles reporters: “They all ask exactly the same questions and you can say exactly the same answers! You don`t have to think, you can just stand there like a broken record going LALALA…”

On well meaning Christians: “I get sent Bibles. I have a collection of about 20 in my room. People think I need to be guided.”

On being a freak of spectacle for life: “Most people are really nice but some stare, like you`re some kind of zoo exhibit and not a real person with real feelings. Even when you take away all the glamour and attention and premieres and everything, it still comes down to how well you can act and acting.

On finding her grey power market: “I could be 100 years old and in my rocker, but i’ll still be very proud that I was part of the Harry Potter films.”

On managing press questions: “[in response to a reporter asking her whether she always wore pigtails]: I never wear pigtails, I wear plaits.”

To see what Brown University has to offer, check them right here. Or, if you like this blog, and want to study and meet kool and krazy Kiwis in Middle Earth, also check out my old college, The University of Auckland too. [Quotes via L]

EMMA WATSON’S ‘I HAD NO IDEA’ HARRY POTTER PUBLICITY IS CUTE

She’s a student at Brown University in Rhode Island who also has a new movie to promote. HP7, Part I – for those of us who can’t count as good as young Emma, 20, can.

Here’s Emma Watson giving a lesson on just exactly how you do that. Says Watson about being like every other kid who watched her in The Harry Potter films (and still do).

In an interview with British Vogue, Watson says she was given an allowance of $75 per week as a kid. Then when she was 17, she had a “money conversation” with her dad, Chris Watson. Here’s what she has to say.

“By the third or fourth film, the money was starting to get serious,” she told Vogue, according to published reports in the U.K. “I had no idea. I felt sick, very emotional.”

People magazine report ‘Watson is now said to be worth $32 million, give or take a few pounds sterling.’

The ‘I had no idea’ humor is very British lady humor. Nonchalant funny like a fine comedian of the British Empire’s gentility. Emma Watson is one funny edu-ma-cating herself naughty-and-nice-with-it girl. Lol!

It’s like saying, ‘I had no idea I was in a film about wizards, I thought I was in the British version of Glee all those years except none of us sing in them, really.’ Lol!

Humor aside, what an amazing opportunity Watson got, because her star maker J.K Rowling imagined, wrote and agreed to cast Emma as a child in her now legendary stories. The success story of Rowling rolls on with Emma today. It’s a darn good story.

Incidentally, ‘I had no idea’ J.K Rowling was so country girl. On Rowling’s official website, she keeps it country, with the sounds of birds chirping, a dog barking and wind whistling through – presumably a farm or forest. Cute sonic layering on her website. After ten minutes a phone rings, and goes unanswered. The banal made strangely fascinating is what Rowlings does. With the exception of Emma Watson, who is fascinating with her sense of humor, of course.

EMMA WATSON’S “NAKED” PIC NOT HER

After a naked pic of Emma Watson‘s face attached to it, circulated online, Watson called in her lawyers, who then spoke through her publicist to disown the likeness.

Says Watson’s publicist: “Her spokesman told me: “If you look at it you will see that the head is marginally too big for the body (but clearly too big!) and the angle of the face is physically impossible with the body in that position.”

And there you have it. Not Emma.
