The Huffington Post reports today, that The Vatican is caught up in a money laundering scandal of sorts.
VATICAN CITY — Italian authorities seized euro23 million ($30 million) from a Vatican bank account Tuesday and said they have begun investigating top officials of the Vatican bank in connection with a money-laundering probe.
“The [Pope] is perplexed and surprised by the initiatives of the Rome prosecutors, considering the data necessary is already available at the Bank of Italy,” it said in a statement.
To see a long list of Italian banker names being quoted in all this, go here. What a circus today for the Catholic Church.

Harriet H.R.H of Brentwood is a honey. She’s all up in my mix while I blog today. She’s posting an ad on Craigslist.
86 years of age, funny, effervescent and her quote she wants up on here with this picture is “If you know of anyone whose filming a short, let them know of me, cause I sure could use the cash.”
Love it. Harriet represents the California I know and love. She has a Jessica Tandy air about her, 7 doctors were in her family. Her dad was called Sam and so was a brother, and with her sweetness of spirit, Harriet is definitely a hot b*tch. Go girl!

The front page of the Washington Post today, declares the recession ‘officially over’ today.
I must suffer from political schizophrenia because it seems like only a few days ago, the Post reported that America was at its worst poverty level in fifteen years.
Nice to know that the recession is officially over though, apparently. Go Washington, and those declarations of hope and wishful thinking. Can’t hurt to talk like that.

Music: Dave Dobbyn with Loyal, a song written about his wife deparating from Dave in his rocker years, but with forgiveness, she later took him back. He’s a lucky man our Dave. This black and white retro video is done in one take. Loves. Loyal lyrics follow after Jodie Fosters words on loyalty below.
Words: Jodi Foster. Who says of bad boy Mel Gibson: “The second I met him [working on Maverick in 1994], I said, ‘I will love this man for the rest of my life… When you love a friend, you don’t abandon them when they’re struggling … But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can get him through this dark moment.”
Mel is like The Darkness in your stereo, but on repeat, however Jodie’s message of loyalty, totally lightens Mel up. What a friend. Loyalty always rocks.

An empty video production store is a perfect place to hang AIDS Walk Day posters in West Hollywood. This particular store, used to specialize in corporate video productions shorts.
If you’d like to support APLA’s annual AIDS Walk Day, go here to read more. If you’re flying into Los Angeles to walk this day, stay at this Los Angeles Hotel, where all staff who are not rostered on this day (as well as their sister hotels staff too), all walk in support of others battling AIDS, homelessness with AIDS, joblessness with AIDS, right here in California every day. Cheers ears. Let’s all make a difference and do some good for those in need. :)

Today, on my way to blog, I noticed four times the amount of people walking the streets of Hollywood today. Many of these people held folders (presumably with resumes) in their hands. The majority of these people are in their early to mid fourties. They look like they are on the frontlines of war.
The number of people on the streets, felt like a weekend day, but clearly all these people are out of work. We need to all pray for America I think. If we’ve forgotten how to do that ourselves, perhaps we need to relearn that skill and art, for this nation’s well being.
The look on these peoples faces is one of “utter shattered shell shockedness.” It’s not pretty, especially that it’s not even halloween yet, but a scared spooked look hovers over peoples eyes.
Alright – that was reality today. Let’s get back to Hollywood topics that are a little bit more interesting and fun.

Maori news reporter, Rachel (aka my sister), wrote and said this is how the Dame June Jackson report should have gone. Just joking. Here’s her words, with a music update too for Sid music fans.
“Mum, Dad and I have been invited to attend Dame June Jackson’s knighting this Saturday. It will be great as 500 invited guests are going to attend.
Good news – Sid just won two Maori Music Awards last weekend in Napier. Willie Jackson (Dame June’s son and Kimiora Jackson’s dad) received his awards on his behalf, as Sid arrived back from the USA this morning. Sid is up for a Vodafone Music Award happening soon.
Watch Dame June news here.
Love you
Rachel xox
Oh… and now, let’s look at what Dame June’s son thinks. Here’s the always humble? and grateful? Willie Jackson on the topic. Take it away Willie:
“MUM By Willie Jackson–It was tough when my mum was the only Dame named on this year’s Queens Birthday honours list.

As I bring you our top ten today, I can’t help but notice two different news stories, about the same topic. That being, two people groups who feel that they are not being recognized by the law if they really say who their ’military daddies’ are. Poor babies! Here’s that story with our news today.
Children of Al-Quaeda pay for the sins of their fathers legal experts say: “Young offspring of militants who forced women into marriage and motherhood, then disappeared, have no rights as Iraqi citizens”–Washington Post is doing way too much today! Go here to read.
And “Lady Gaga” – the construct – eyes up her next $62 million with her lucrative fanbase, urging a repeal of the Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, military policy concerning gays of the U.S who fight for the country. Keeping her meat theme going, The Guardian reports Gaga as saying: “Equality is the prime rib of America, but because I’m gay I don’t get to enjoy the greatest cut of meat my country has to offer.” (Girlfriend only made $62 million last year, snatching the rainbow flag off Madonna to wave around, so huh?! what she talking about? ) I kid. I can see that she’s going to cover the whole B.B.Q meat menu on this one.
The tie and the kooky glasses remind me of the high school debating team. The fist held high above the head, and all of the invisible Hollywood Hills strings are vibing off this image.
Now back to the Iraqi children in question, who are fatherless, not allowed to say who their military daddies are either, to feel like a true citizen of their country. Is this the same issue? Or am I reading my news all wrong today? :)
In all seriousness. Human rights issues abound today. When I think of Jewish women getting repeatedly plundered (raped) by colonizers throughout history, the lineage of the mothers, was what nationhood went by. Is Iraq not the same in this case, for the sake of innocent children? Perhaps Israel officials can help these children mediate some parity based on Israel’s experience as human rights advocates and resilient survivors, no?
Here’s the top ten entertainment and celebrity news posts in Hollywood today as voted by US. You all rock.

Whose giving Sandra Bullock a run for their ‘most powerful actress in the world’ claim today?
Jodie Foster is. She talks being dikey in the pink, gives the mother of hood tips to anyone who cares and talks about volcano Mel’s unpredictable temper.

Says LA Times food critic, Jonathan Gold on Top Chef’s chef Michael Volttagio ‘s green foray in steamed baby veges- “The term OCD doesn’t begin to describe the scary focus Voltaggio brings to a lightly cooked baby turnip. Yesterday, two students of a photography school of L.A, randomly approached me to ask if they could take my picture.
Having just demolished a whole roast chicken (literally, as Maoris can in one setting) while a squirrel was trying to get the chocolate out of my bag, I didn’t want to get photographed, because I was sure there was chicken stuck in my hori teeth.
They insisted as their school assignment was to “photograph strangers.” Being an “alien,” that rung a bell. For Arts sake, I said “okay.”
100 photographs later, I felt stalked, invaded, like–I doubted that I would never be a “one take” kinda guy, I also thought of stars who have been photographed, or all the people whose faces, art, stuff, fashion etc, words, I’d ever captured, chose to blog about and put on here, without asking sometimes, but sharing for art and cultures sake. So it was a good pay back exercise for the universe. The photographer was a doctor, who specializes in pregnant women. She was not a bad photographer.
Here’s an image of her lighting assistant, herself, and chocolate-loving, playful said squirrel. As this doctor proves, it is a good time to take up a hobby. Meet strangers. Travel. She’s off to the Himalayas next (she’d once dated a Kiwi in the Sir Edmund Hilary school of kayaking) and then she plans to go to New Zealand next.
Normally I’m shy, but she had quite the way with words, so I said “attack me” and she did. 100 shots later (I tried my best to crack the lens, it didn’t work), while only seeing her camera lens nose, with smiling teeth dangling from it the whole time (very in your face photography!!!), I thought, hey -that wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. She had good teeth, so it was a pleasure.
Anyway, here’s a photgraphic subject far more interesting–a sculpture in Beverly Hills, showing a bit of patriotic spirit. The artist died young – so we’re quite lucky we have this art work in Bev Hills really!

Yesterday, I set out to do a hat tribute for you. While I was waiting for my No Ordinary Family bus to get to Rexford Beverly Hills, I noticed that Beyonce‘s Heat fragrance billboard above Santa Monica and Crescent Heights, had been switched out for Mad Men’s Jon Hamm and new friends movie, called The Town. Only the President’s men and women, get this particular prime billboard spot, so that was big West Hollywood news.
Anyway, while pondering this, Miles Foster turned up wearing a reggae colored tee shirt, that my cousins back in New Zealand, would have traded out for, had they seen it.
In talking, I discovered that Miles is a graphic designer. His family have a factory in Massachusetts that makes hats (mainly caps). The hats are then sent onto Los Angeles, where the designs are custom-designed for L.A’s sophisticated hip hop communities needs.
Miles inspires as he’s doing it. Making things along with his family, like hats today. I like people like Miles family. Good people, industrious, creative. Plodders who are working hard.
Here’s pics of that. And Miles–a promise is a promise–and you’re most welcome. Here it is.
America’s message – we are a nation, who to survive and grow, must wear more hats than we all have been. Thanks Miles and the Foster family for the message.

Today, I am paying tribute to June Jackson, who my sister tells me, became a Dame. My memories of the lovely June are usually associated with our devilishy fun witted, Aunty Naida, where June and I would take smoko breaks together with Naida giving June a non-stop joke show, of which June would reply –equally as funny, when they both served on the Fisheries Board in New Zealand.
During those times (where June would often wear a turban like Coco Chanel) Naida and June together, were the funniest, wittiest, honest comedians on the planet. She’s lovable.
In Junes own words, here’s a flashback to an article in the New Zealand Herald as to why she accepted her title. In her own words.
“The only person appointed a dame in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, June Jackson, says her award is also for the disproportionate number of Maori in the country’s prisons.
Dame June, 70, has been honoured this year for her work with prisoners, urban Maori and the Waitangi Fisheries Commission.

Last week, a friend sat me down and told me ever so politely, that America is a great nation and everything is at Americans disposable. To get ahead in America, you have to show your usefulness. Otherwise, you’re like, toast. And not in the champagne effervescent way.
I didn’t understand what they meant, because every culture has its own rhetoric of what it deems to be useful. Finally, when I was looking at vintage Christian Dior photographs, I saw a design, that made their point. America takes pride in a sense that they control the world, so in a way usefulness to an American, really means mouldable functionality, that is put to good use. (My own definition, derived from these images of Dior’s mastery at fashion design).
If usefulness is multiple expressions of functionality taking different forms, in effect–what does this mean for America today? That question will be the underpinning question, of all Americans in the 2010′s. Enjoy these pictures. And, to the friend who gave me this advice, thank you for sharing.

GUEST COMMENTARY – HILARY CLINTON’S HAIR CLIP BY MICHAEL K
This just in via New York City: Hilary Clinton‘s hair clip is big news, according to some pop cultural analysts.
In today’s world where media audiences are shifting constantly, the rise of the pop cultural analyst is huge, hence the need for The View, or, blogs like this one, to talk about silly things, like Hilary’s on-the-move choice to wear a hair clip, and not check in with a New York hair stylist with a big blo dryer to frou-frou her up.
Here’s Michael K of The Big Apple on this fickle topic because being as fickle as Michael K (and funny with it) is a full time job to amuse America. Me? it’s much easier to copy and paste such bitchiness into this blog. Thanks Michael.
