Former rugby league football player and occasional boxer, Monty Betham‘s is heading back to the boxing ring. Undefeated in five pro boxing fights, Betham who last boxed four years ago is now putting back on his gloves when Monty gets set to take on Fight For Life Champion, Shane Cameron. Referring to his former boxing wins, Monty is circumspect at his challenge ahead.
Gotta admire the comeback heroes in an “age of austerity.”
Of his former boxing oponents, Betham reflects, “Obviously they weren’t of Shane Cameron’s calibre,” Monty said.
“Cameron, who now weighs 94kg, has been inactive for 3 1/2 months because of an operation on his busted right hand. The 34-year-old turned down turned a chance to defend his Commonwealth title on the undercard to Danny Green in Perth next week because his “hand wasn’t ready for it”. He now has just three weeks to get fit. Training starts today with a 17km run for Cure Kids.
“It [a loss] would not be a good look at all. I better start training. I wasn’t planning on fighting again this year. I’ve got everything to lose here,” Cameron said. “I know that. But I’m very confident of coming away with the victory. A loss would be a huge blow at this time in my career. Losing doesn’t come into my mind. I look at it as a world title fight for me.”
Promoter David Higgins was chuffed to pull off the high-profile match-up which is sure to captivate huge New Zealand audiences.
“There’s a lot at stake. Cameron is risking his career. If he’s beaten by Betham it’s over. Betham is risking his health. If Cameron connects good, Betham will go down. It’s a magic match-up.”

According to the Los Angeles Times Blog: “The time had come for Manny Pacquiao to act on his desire to convincingly defeat Juan Manuel Marquez, his great rival from Mexico.
With the World Boxing Organization welterweight title on the line, Pacquiao received as well as he gave on Saturday night at the sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena in winning a majority decision over Marquez, who had twice before taking the Filipino champion to the limit in earning a draw and losing a split decision.
Judges Glenn Trowbridge (116-112 ) and Dave Moretti (115-113) scored it for Pacquiao. Robert Hoyle called it a draw, 114-114.”
Fox News today, reports that the crowd who were ringside at at the fight, reflected views similar to how many Americans felt during a Florida election, once. They thought the judges rigged the match and the fight win should have gone Juan Manuel Marquez’s way. Read that here.
As hard as they try, sports gladiators, just can’t please all of the people, all of the team.

Sad news for fans of boxing, as Joe Frazier dies, aged 67 of liver cancer. The Los Angeles Times, Bill Dwyer writes: “In 1971 he became the first fighter to defeat Ali, then lost two epic rematches. In his 37 professional fights, ‘Smokin’ Joe’ won 32 times. In his 37 professional fights, Frazier won 32 times — 27 by knockout — and lost only four, with one draw. But he never really accepted his 1-2 record against Ali. “I whupped him three times,” Frazier said many times over the years.”"
What I remembered of Frazier, was like Ali – he was instrumental in being a civil rights activist for African-American people’s long walk to freedom against inequality. His medium of expression was sport and the boxing ring. What a champ! :)

“I don’t really enjoy training. People say it’s addictive, but I’m like, ‘not so much. As I blog, the radio is blaring with ‘s youth/ travel/ dance anthem…. You Make Me Feel.
For all the kids of the world, here’s that pop jingle. The song has a very ‘Young Hollywood’ friendly club vibe. Pumping track.
Currently the song is no.2 on New Zealand’s Top 50 charting songs list. Enjoy!
In boxing news today, the Sydney Morning Herald are running with this shot of Shane Cameron in the boxing ring. “Shane Cameron has become the first New Zealander to hold the Commonwealth cruiserweight title since the 1970s.”
The accompanying news story reads: “Shane Cameron (left) may have sealed one of his “greatest wins” in beating Dominic Vea in Sydney last night, but the Mountain Warrior’s hopes of a world title fight against Aussie slugger Danny Green have been dashed through no fault of his own.
Cameron, who dropped from the heavyweight division to cruiserweight last year in an attempt to position himself for a shot at Green’s IBO cruiserweight world title, had been promised one if he stopped Vea.
Living up to his end of the bargain, he did exactly that after landing a flurry of punches on his Aussie rival in the 12th and final round of a brutal battle.
But joy soon turned to disappointment after Green, whose fight was the main event in Sydney, lost his title when knocked out by classy American Antonio Tarver at the end of the ninth round barely an hour later.”

Bradley James joined the New Zealand army recently, as previously reported on this blog, both from Hollywood and also here in paradise too.
Somehow, Brad landed on his boots in the Elliot platoon. A platoon when witnessed in effect is mean, disciplined and focused with courage. When these guys and girls get down to drilling, you can’t help but feel the fierce.
Here’s some snap shots of that. Be afraid.
As Kiwi soldiers, they’re well-trained, tight as an army pack and pretty tough. Integrity sets them apart as army all respect for their ability to serve and protect community. Bradley is 21 years of age, in these photographs.
Thought for today, “The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.”–Moses.

He’s a boxer for fun, a rugby football player for the game and a fan of the LA Lakers basketball team too. Sonny Bill Williams is a Kiwi sports star, the world can be proud of.
He’s lethal in action in a boxing ring or on a football field. And on this blog, he’s always packed a mean punch as a stellar celebrity and Maori Kiwi lad, the world loves. Universal Comcast are broadcasting Sonny Bill and his rugby peers across America this year. If you can, get to see Williams and his mates live. Info found here.

Hollywood’s no.1 box office heavyweight, Mr James Cameron makes me smile today.
As guest commentary I’m going to run with The Hollywood Reporter’s full report on his appearance at CinemaCon 2011. As I never wrote this story, you might want to read it here at it’s original source, to be fair to this website’s hits rate.
As Hollywood’s reigning King of The Box Office in America, here’s what James had to say in a story penned with good humor too, by Carolyn Giardina: “Higher frame rates offer “the potential to improve showmanship,” the director tells attendees at ChinemaCon.
LAS VEGAS — Calling the current use of frame rates in digital cinema “inadequate,” James Cameron urged the industry to consider shooting and projecting movies at rates higher than the standard 24 frames-per-second in a demonstration he presented Thursday at Cinemacon.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a bit of a boxer. Here’s this whipper snapper’s show reel compiled by a fan, doing the art of Rocky in a Ring. What is annoying though is that when I tried to post Floyd’s Ali talents via YouTube in my humble blog, YouTube then said, his nono was owned by UMG entertainment. Oi, oi, oi. Like say what? Anyways, click on pic to then link to UMG’s YouTube account to watch this man’s image box up a storm. Alright. Enough said about commodities who should own themselves and their representations in a modern enlightened FREE age of intelligence and decency of the humanities.
Five things we’re looking at right now and sharing as social media from Hollywood as culture we like are:
1. Stay Strong Maori Music – with a spirit of gratitude set to teamwork – Te Piringa
2. Rugby stars footage – Men in Black, Kamiigusa Japan
3. Tahitian dance hips are a bit Shakira down under
4. Bill Gates takes a shine to Harry Houdini - a Hollywood legend
5. Kiwi Hollywood humor – Tom Hardy works his Batman tee shirt

RYAN VREDE of South Africa website Keo writes that nullifying Sonny Bill Williams must be a top priority for the Sharks at Twickenham.
Why? For these reasons: ‘The hulking midfielder has been the fulcrum around which the Crusaders’ strategy has revolved. His immense upper body strength allows him to dominate the collisions and free his hands in search of support runners.
Herein lies his primary threat, evidenced by the fact that he leads the tournament in tackle offloads (19 – 10 more than his nearest competitor) and is second in linebreak assists. His ability to skilfully offload with one hand amplifies that threat.’
But wait, there’s more:
‘Stifling Williams will be the ask of the collective, starting with a solid forward showing that ensures the Crusaders struggle to establish the type of attacking platform that has seen Williams and co thrive.
The smother tackle – where a defender aims to prevent his opponent from freeing his hands in contact – is highly effective when executed correctly. However, it carries the risk of the defender being bumped off if he gets it wrong.’
All that from South Africa today. Go here to read more of what South Africa sports commentators and fans think about the best rugby football players in the world.
Sonny Bill is ignoring what his opponents think of his rugby football action. The latest from the ring is that Williams is planning to get his boxing game on and raise funds for earthquake devastated Christchurch City. He’s got his head screwed on well on his rugby football shoulders and his heart in the right place, this lad.

Adam, a fighter specializing in mixed-martial arts, is taking the hard hits for the art of sport and honed reflexes today.
The local legend of Legends Mixed Martial Arts (Training Center) here in Los Angeles says “I love the Maori haka. Your Kiwi football [rugby football] boys are fierce doing the haka!”
We talk about Maori actor Cliff Curtis who trains in Mau Rakau (the indigenous form of Maori Martial Arts learned on Mokoia Island training schools at set times of the year in Rotorua, New Zealand). A trip to Rotorua is something that fascinates Adam, to learn this Maori sport.
Cliff kicked his weight at the global box office in The Last Airbender in 3D, a big box office winner last year worldwide. Mau Rakau goes with Hollywood, already as a useful sports activity that can equate to box office stars with good casting moves on the board.
“Black eyes are just a part of the sport,” Adam says with an eye that only Sylvester Stallone‘s mother Jackie could love today. “I’m so used to having them, I’ve learned to read out of the eye that’s less painful to see out of each week. It varies.”
Man. That’s tough. Cheers bo!
Adam is also a student, studying hard, as well as being a top-level fighter. It’s about good balance and taking the good with the bad being a champ, who can read with both eyes! Go Adam!!
Music – In case you wanted to see it again, here’s Fergie, Will.I.Am & The Black Eyed Peas turning out their Super Bowl Show 2011 from Sunday. It’s all about the freaky costumes and the armies and armies of dancers doing MC Hammer’s running man moves, in an effort to look like the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony, I tell ya! Will’s dancers are running to school to get educated or something though, apparently in his shout outs during this performance.

Happy New Years Eve America! Thanks for being so generous to those in need on Horiwood.Com at key, unexpected moments this year.
For what you do for others, you’re simply the best! I think this year, together we did catch a lot of grenades in the world for others as the earth was shaken and stirred like a dizzying martini in the natural disasters department. Many of you were such superstars surviving those hurdles this year also! Wow!!! This year I observed you giving to others on and via this blog.
That part always humbles me so much. I live in Hollywood, but you are Hollywood’s big stars to me, when I see you move, act and make a difference. For those who also helped me too this year, sincere thanks. For those we lost and mourned, never forgotten. Their memory burns bright in our hearts.
Peace, Mauri ‘Ola Tatou (Life to US) & God Bless.
Rugby football player and boxer Sonny Bill Williams perhaps best defines the spirit of people living in the US in these times. You have to box. It’s sort of the new Hammer Time sentiment! These are the times in which we live. Sonny is pictured above on the left in the boxing ring. You’ll get to see more of him during Rugby World Cup 2011 perhaps.

True fact: The Maori word for spirit is wairua. It means “two waters.” Water distribution is a spiritually humane act, because it takes anyone with spirit to ensure that people who need it, can have life each hour of the day. Our spirits need to act with goodness so water can happen for 1 billion people. Most of these people are in India and Africa. I wonder if China can help as water has so much significance as a metaphor for spirit in China. When I China is already helping share water.
Exciting News: For only $10 invested at Charity Water, one person in the world can have fresh clean drinking water, for a lifetime – when currently 1 billion people don’t have access to it yet. Isn’t that cool information?
It’s the end of the year in Hollywood. Normally I do the list of The 50 People Who Were Voted Most Hottest in Hollywood, as a really good compare and contrast democratic exercise in who is actually hot –vs, other media outlets lists. It can be quite surprisingly the results. On this website, votes are voted daily. The results always provide a study. For example Lady Gaga was no.1 last year, before she’d even appeared on Oprah’s Show.
This year though I thought instead of glorifying Hollywood’s Top 50 list, a priority first, was to link the list of stars, celebrities, hot Hollywood topics in this blogs category list with the topic of H2O. Sometimes we forget that the difference between a ‘star’ and an unknown third world person – is simply basics of humanity or human rights too, like clean drinking water being one–and equal access to it. So, before that list happens, let’s work the existing list already created of people and stars on this blog, who all can do something to help other peeps have life that flows daily with decent water.
Let’s do it as a Christmas gift to the world. Each star who gets any press going up online, have these news items emailed to them daily in the form of google alerts emails. So, in doing this exercise, this is my challenge as a Maori-Kiwi blogger to each one of US as I like US together as a global community connected to all people in the world, to give the gift of water this Christmas to someone else in celebration of life. Celebrity is about water. A celebrity is “anyone who deserves to be celebrated.” In giving water to someone else–we celebrate life, and we act like true celebrities of the world.
Merry Christmas and if you feel inclined, make a difference. is our water distribution agency today. It’s a trust that is action certified that Nicole Richie all year round. Richie also does work too for water distribution via UNICEF as well. I think that’s pretty gnarly good. Let’s do it and make a difference. Cheers and thanks for reading this blog all year round. May festive greetings flow to others too through US. Much love.
Until every person has clean drinking water –no one in the world has true power. Who are we fooling? There will never be peace in the world, if people are fighting over clean water each day. As a power balance exercise that makes us civilized nations look less fake in the eyes of the world, let’s have some fun and make it happen. :)

Angelina Jolie is always a face people like to share via social media. And Shania Twain proves that maturity can only occur with forgiveness–the sweetest revenge of all is growing up in love–forgiving people who try and mangle that desire to love and be loved in us all, is key as Shania proves! She is a total winner.
In addition to Angelina Jolie being the most shared face and name of this blog in Hollywood across 2010 here’s some other thoughts too.
The thing about Hollywood blogging and working at it 24-7 in Hollywood is that surprising discoveries occur daily. Like the fact that all these names and topics are being bumped on via social media too right now creating culture that’s fresh in the USA with every fresh bump of information transparently shared freely. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I do believe that is clear evidence of democracy at large. Love it. I was just about to get a rubber stamp made with my signature on it to give away to Republican politicians for Christmas (each stamp gift boxed wrapped with a dog collar made for British bull dogs) as their fantasy gift to affirm their whole gig as puppets of a political system. In their gig they sit in The House in 2011, waiting to be bullies like greedy-gutted ankle biting, annoying dogs, who are told to not stop barking until ink has been signed from a half black man’s hand that they rudely and publically disrespect and despise (the current look of US politics has been reduced to that look, sadly–evidence of racism still needing its head lopped off before it spreads and poisons a new generation of Americans again). However, because democracy is still alive and well as these shared posts prove, I don’t have to get the rubber stamp now.
Maybe gifting some boxing gloves to Barack instead would be a far more wiser, cost-saving investment. Keeping those gloves on his hands at all times, instead of signing Republican bills in the house–would be far more entertaining and just.
I will be doing more Pro-Obama news posts though just to give you the prior heads up in advance– every time America’s President stands up for himself in 2011.
For sharing joy with others as fresh culture via social media, you all inspire. Go you guys and girls!

Looking after Hollywood’s future box office stars, with unique stories for the world, for California economy’s interests is what this blog post is about. Keeping such stars alive, could prove to be a challenge–hence this post.
Wow! Cassius Clay‘s In Your Face official tee shirt, in military khaki green issue, would make a great tee shirt to wear to basketball hoop games on the local block of Australia with mates or at rugby football, rugby league matches and Aussie rules football practice too each week.
I discovered it, on this post about innocent Australian young fella Daniel Assange of Melbourne. Go here to buy it for $19..99 to impress your friends and family, and make your hood a little bit more colorful and fun–like how a community of sporting champions, roll and celebrate cool people.
Daniel’s precious life and youthful potential is currently being threatened and bullied when he’s an innocent Australian young person of the world. Shocking stuff! This tee shirt is very relevant in New Zealand and Australia right at this second as well as All-ways Being relevant in American hoods and South Africa hoods too equally any day of the year. It’s a symbol of greatness and fairness, apparently.

Guess what? I noticed that we can buy the Ali tin tote to take to your office for lunch every day, while wearing a suit a tie.
It’s kind of rocking good hot–in a who you lunch with, knock out, corporate way. Like, if you have a lunch box tote like this–you’d better be lunching with the right people and not a bunch of pretentious time wasters. It’s what this tote symbolizes to me anyway.
Go here to Ali’s official website to buy it for your office team and their lunches in creating a team of champions at your unique box office. It’s purchasable for only $15. What a score! Go here. American history at its finest.
Ali was an original American Lord of the Ring! A civil rights champion for the world not just America. As a Maori-Kiwi I totally dig it. The tote holds meaning to me.

“I think I look quite good actually,” John Key the well humored Prime Minister of New Zealand reportedly remarked, after modeling an original silk boxing robe signed by American legend of sports and civil rights, Muhammad Ali, purchased by Honey New Zealand for $9,500–provided a photo could be taken of John wearing it.
The son of George Key, Mr Key was raising money for burns sufferers at a Mad Butcher and Suburban Newspapers Community Trust dinner on Friday to raise funds for the National Burn Centre.
Trust chairman Sir Peter Leitch, was delighted with the $219,000 raised. “This is going to allow the centre to get some equipment that is going to make a huge difference to burns sufferers,” he said. Fairfax Media’s Operation Heal text donations was also on the go and other fundraising efforts, and donations from Sunday Star-Times readers helped too.
Sir Peter and Lady Leitch had kicked off the campaign with a $10,000 donation, which was matched by the Hugh Green Foundation and later by the Sir William and Lady Lois Manchester Trust. Nice. Mike Morton, The Mad Butcher’s current owner was present, along with Kerre Woodham who played funny girl MC. Two morning teas with the PM sold at $20k a piece and a pink salmon neck tie he wore to the event for a laugh went for $7k. That’s a fair bit of celebrity heat being generated right there in New Zealand. Good to see.
In Hollywood here’s a manuka honeybee Ali pop cultural tribute to America-New Zealand relations as well as George Burns Hollywood star, Walk of Fame–in the spirit of the PM’s sense of humor and Kiwis generosity of spirit towards others.
Peace.
This story also featured in The Manawatu Standard. Manawatu means “stout hearted” or “to stand tall in heart” in the Maori language of New Zealand. It’s a little bit Mel Gibson Australian-American ‘naughty’ but via Scotland and Hollywood Oscar winning, like the movie Braveheart too. If you’re reading that in Hollywood and are upset that I just wrote Mel Gibson‘s name, grow up, there are no perfect people–just people learning to be better people. In this picture we have a Jewish-Kiwi King wearing an African-American muslim’s champion boxer robe of Ali–whose religious convictions prevented him from fighting at war and who doubled as a civil rights champion in the same manner Nelson Mandela has in the world today also. African-Americans aren’t offended New Zealand’s PM is wearing Ali’s robe and auctioning it off for burns victims. Um, except the one question–how exactly did Mr Key get Ali’s robe? Oops. That’s hysterical.
