When you think “Triple Threat” as a title, you think Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire and that ilk of an American entertainer.
You definitely think Michael Jackson and maybe even Beyonce in Dreamgirls. You most certainly think Bollywood stars.
Billboard however wants us to think Lea Michele of Glee. The Magazine is giving Michele their first triple threat award. Say’s Lea quite humorously about it: “”At work we have a nickname for Matt Morrison — we call him ‘Triple Threat,’ because he’s an incredible singer-dancer-actor. And now I get to borrow that phrase, which is really cool.”
Michele will be honored with Fergie of the Blackeyed Peas who pipped Lady Gaga at the post for Billboard’s Woman of The Year Award. Michele will be celebrated alongside Jazmine Sullivan, who is receiving the Rising Star Award.
Notes Billboard: The “Glee” cast broke the Beatles’ Hot 100 record for most appearances among non-solo acts in the chart’s 52-year-history, with 75 entries over the Fab Four’s 71. The cast’s Hot 100 grand total now stands at 89. This award honors how Lea Michele has shaped music.
“Billboard created the triple Threat Award this year to recognize the incredible contribution that Lea Michele has made to music, as a star on Glee,” said Billboard Editorial director Bill Werde. “Glee has rewritten the Billboard charts this year and Lea has been one of the driving stars of that success. Whether she’s covering Britney or Broadway, Madonna or Rihanna, she always manages to bring out the most in her songs in a way that is distinctly Rachel, and by extension, Lea. Phenomena aren’t always backed by true talent, but in this case, it’s clear that Lea has what it takes as as singer, a dancer and an actor to be a star for years to come.”
Fair enough. You can’t argue with sales numbers. Glee‘s ensemble act doing covers of leading pop star brands music, is recycling at its best. Full credit to Glee and Lea for their efforts.
