Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn got off to a great start with Season 6 of Project Runway. The embattled TV show made a triumphant return, after its many IP legal battles about the show. Endurance paid off. Heidi, Tim and a new line up of Project Runway fashion designers and talent, garnered a 33% lift in ratings for the reality TV Series.
I love the fact that the guy who was untrained at fashion school won the first challenge of red carpet couture. I also love the fact that he was from Minnesota!
Go Minnesota in LA! Hey Mo, hey Danny, hey Buzzworks. Love you all!
Lindsay Lohan who was a guest judge, showed how biz smart and savvy this young lady can be when it comes to fashion. She’s not just a famous face. That girl worked it out about the practicality of good fashion design combined with saleable fashion that could actually work with retailers in stores. Just goes to show, you can never judge a book by its cover. Lohan’s biz brains impressed!

Jason Mraz has made history. His hit I’m Yours became the longest-running song on the Hot 100 chart in Billboard’s 51 year history. No other music artist has claimed this feat on the zenith of music’s mountain peaks. He’s surprising.
Although Mraz refers to I’m Yours as being “genre-less,” it’s not. It’s reggae-scar.He’s the male version of Gwen Stefani, but stripped back.Period. It is what it is.
No music is ever genre-less. Human beings have been creating ‘unique’ music for centuries, that Mraz has borrowed from or been influenced by. Let’s cut the crap.
However, I’m Yours is the only song to hit No.1 on the major 4 radio-centric based charts. These being: The Mainstream Top 40, Adult Contemporary, Adult Top 40, Pop Songs and in addition, Triple A.
I so knew this was going to happen. When vacationing in Hawaii, (The Obama Sunshine State of the USA — get there or be square!), it was the one song you ever heard performed live in all 5 live entertainment venues you walked passed on the way to dinner. The song when performed by local Hawaiian artists (either white or Polynesian and Asian) had varying degrees of Hawaiian guitar twang to it, but there was no denying it was an unofficial American national anthem for Summer.
The Hawaiian people have great taste in music by the way. They pick fusion artists THE BEST out of any state in the US (as well as growing ‘savior’ presidents). This is Hawaii’s forte, as being the ‘defending military outpost’ of America. If we trust Hawaii with that job, we should also trust Hawaii to pick our music hits, no? Yes!
People in recession need two things; the need to escape somewhere tropical and also the need to feel useful and wanted. The lyrics of I’m Yours and its exotic reggae beats, mediated that vibe really well. What sets Mraz apart, as a white guy with a big hit, is that he borrowed heavily from Jamaica. To say this song is genre-less is kinda lame, but we applaud him today anyway. False humility (the humorous version of it) fused with amazing talent, is why Mraz goes icognito, to clean up the music stakes. Hopefully, now that he’s achieved honors in music, he can now be a man, and reference his music influences a bit more clearly.
He caught the Obama Hawaiian vibe in America, at the turn of history. He owes his success in America as much to Barack Obama as he does to Bob Marley. Let’s call Jace The Ace out on that. America is not that gullible, but the excuse of “genre-less” was very cute. For good music that sounds exactly like Jason Mraz, order Katacahfire albums on iTunes. Jason Mraz’s We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things is a brilliant masterpiece. If you haven’t bought your copy, buy it today. I loved it. Still do. Live in concert, this man is phenomenal.

No matter how hard I try to appreciate new artist, Sliimy’s music, I just can’t get past the fact that Sliimy looks like Lady Gaga doing a very bad drag impression of Nick Jonas. It’s very off-putting.
Nice stop-motion animation though. The music video direction deserves a gold medal for making up for Sliimy’s below average music. Compare Sliimy to the reggae band Katchafire below. Um…. yeah! The Katchafire bros are way better.

… just won’t shut up about being the dad of Paris Katherine Jackson. Though no DNA tests have been conducted yet, this dude is everywhere in the media yapping on about it.
Did it ever occur to him, that he may not be Paris Jackson’s biological dad? No. Yet he still continues to go on talk shows like NBC’s Today Show.
Janet Jackson must be tearing her weave out at all the family drama, post her brother MJ’s death. But then again, she’d be used to it. She’s a Jackson. Goes with the territory.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have bought the French Chateau that they stayed in when their twins were being born in the beautiful countryside of Provence, France.
What did they pay for the private “home” in France? A cool $74 million. Dare I say it, but it’s nice to see these two living like movie stars for once. They give so much to charity to make the world a better place. Finally they are loving themselves. It’s all about balance.
I guess a few more commercials in Japan will refill their coffers somewhat. Angie is half French, so it’s to be expected they’d buy a French pad and spend time in France with the children.
A nice PR move too when Brad’s latest film, The Inglourious Bastards is set in France and reigns at #1 at the box office. The house purchase should get more cinema goers who love all things Brad AND Angie, into theaters. Angie throws her movie star status behind her beau to fill up cinemas. Clever. She’s the only A-List star who does not have a publicist, yet she’s the invisible architectural publicist of them all. She’s the king pin of Hollywood’s entire star system. All stars follow her lead. Love her smarts! She’s humble with it.

On Saturday I had the joy of watching Inglourious Basterds at The Arclight Theater on Sunset & Vine.
From the outset, it was clearly a Tarantino film, the Fleu di Lise played on a grand piano, juxtaposed with classical el mariarchi guitar, in the opening sequence of the film’s soundtrack, let you immediately know Tarantino was hard at work as an auteur of Hollywood film. Ironically the music was working. Very clever.
I normally don’t like violent films. So, every time there was a violent scene, I closed my eyes. Consequently, I heard but did not see 1/4 of Quentin Tarantino’s latest film. That being said, despite the swastika being carved into the foreheads of Nazi heads with Brad Pitt wielding a jungle knife, I still enjoyed it a lot.
The way the different storylines all came together, to an explosive end was clever to say the least. Set in Nazi Germany occupied France, the Basterds chronicles the fictitious death of Adolph Hitler and Josef Goebbels in a small town cinema theater.
Let’s face it, Steven Speilberg may have done Shindler’s List, a brilliant masterpiece about The Holocaust, but Inglourious Bastards is a film that is the ultimate in Jewish-Centric cinema. I mean,where else does Hitler’s face get shot up and grossly disfigured at close range by a gun to the point that Freddie Krueger looks pretty.
It’s Italian-American director, Quentin Tarantino giving the Hollywood powers that be, what they really want. He’s the anti Mel Gibson really, and it’s so working for him in this film as he nudges towards another Oscar nod. Yet politics aside, and looking outside of a Jewish-centric lens for a second, Soshanna’s storyline, brings an aspect of human redemption, that makes her story, a story about humanity and not just the Jewish struggle of survival.
Finding that fine line, amidst spectacular grotesque violence and how she avenged the death of her family, makes this film work and forgivable of its many violent representations. Redemption happens in this film. That’s why I’m giving it the thumbs up.
To see Shoshanah, a Jewish projectionist, get revenge on Hitler, was actually quite thrilling. And we have to agree with Brad Pitt’s character (Lt. Aldo Raine) in the movie, who gets the last word that “this could quite possibly be [Brad's] best work yet.”
The Arclight theater was packed at 1pm Saturday (a good sign). People clapped at the film’s end (another good sign). They left the cinema smiling (perhaps at sheer relief the 2hr 40 minute movie was actually over). And the world seemed like a better place out of the theater in the Californian sunlight again.
Because of its very pro-Jewish storyline, rumor has it, that Inglourious Basterds has Oscars buzz written all over it. Hollywood is a very Jewish run town. So it wouldn’t surprise me. One of Quentin Tarantino’s best films to date. Though Pulp Fiction still remains my fav. If you are 18 or over and love blood, guts and gore. This is your movie hot ticket this year.
The movie belongs to two actors Stellar performances: Christoph Waltz playing Nazi Cpl Wilhem Wicki and Diane Kruger’s brilliant Brigette Von Hammersmark (a German actress, turned anti-Nazi informer). Both were brilliant but Waltz was incredible. At his hands, a glass of milk, whipped cream on apple strudel, or the pristine plaster-of-paris-white of a leg-cast, have never looked so chilling.

Vince McMahon, owner of the World Wrestlers Entertainment Inc brand, has announced to the world that he wants to launch his own Cable TV Channel.
McMahon has set a two year time frame to do this in. At this rate he’s going to beat Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable channel to the punch.
Vince Macmahon hopes to widen the WWE brand to be a bit softer, rather than steroids, tan and choreographed fight scenes in the WWE ring. He’s smart. I can’t wait to see the reality TV series of The Real Housewives of WWE.
Just kidding, but there’s so much potential to grow this brand. Congrats Mr McMahon for having vision to grow.

The US National debt clock online is staggering. To view it’s face of truth and reality, go here. One should never argue with the truth. Truth provides a snap shot in time, that’s true, whether we like it or not. So, I like this clock! It says a lot. Like….
America’s war industry (as well as national defense against the threat of US enemies) currently has the country in $516,000,000 and rising as at 8pm, 24th August, 2009.
The US National debt currently sits at $11,748,050,000. Or at an average to every US citizen at $38,233 per person.
The good news is, that the latter figure doesn’t sound too bad. If every American citizen pays $4k extra each for the next 10 years, the debt is repaid.
There’s always a positive side to everything. It just goes to show how a shift from money and material things (as measures of success) is needed and valuable at this time. If money is not the only focus, then the soul of the American people can never be lean in times of duress. We live in such times.
There is something special about a crowd of people smiling in America. Despite the alarming rate the national debt clock racks up higher numbers, hope is alive and well here in America.

MTV News coverage today centered around the L.A. coroner’s office report on the death of Michael Jackson that has finally been released. The Coroner’s report directly links Jackson’s death to the extremely lethal levels of the the propofol anaesthetic in his system. The report goes further to officially classify the King of Pop’s death as a homicide. The findings caused a media frenzy Monday in the US. As to be expected, the news surprised, saddened, angered and outraged fans.
The homicide report now gives the LAPD a further reason to speak with MJ’s doctor, Dr Conrad Murray. The results just affirm the original suspicion of Michael Jackson’s sister, LaToya Jackson, who always said she believed her brother was murdered.
That’s the big news story in Hollywood, Monday.

America was shocked over the weekend when Reality TV Love went wrong. Reality TV star Ryan Alexander Jenkins murdered his TV co-star and real life girlfriend, Jasmine Flores and stuffed her body in a suitcase, that was discovered in a Southern Californian dumpster. He later took his own life after he crossed the border into Canada. Shocking, sad, unecessary! RIP. Our thoughts go out to all of their family and friends and this time. Poor Jasmine Flores.

Kia Ora (hello). Some of you are asking me why I don’t write much poetry these days and just blog about celebrities. So this one’s for you. It’s a poem submitted for Lua, poetry anthology collection of Maori and Polynesian Poets around the world. Editors are: Robert Sullivan, Reina Whaitiri and Dr Albert Wendt. Originally, I wrote for Whetu Moana when being trained by author and professor, Witi Ihimaera, in the art of creative writing.
To enjoy and appreciate my poetry for its inflections of the Maori language, I recommend using this tool, to understand words you may not have heard of before. Being a hori (Maori) in Hollywood is a pioneering thing, so the online Maori dictionary will help any of you LA types reading it.

1. The Twilight Saga.Com – features a great interview with director Catherine Hardwicke and currently has a penchant for Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black film character. Mainly centered around hawking Twilight’s latest merchandise for the film series the site is rated #1 on google.com’s search engines.
The latest merchandise being offered is a promotion featuring the cover for New Moon: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion which is to be published by Little, Brown on October 6th. The visual guide to the second Twilight fim features exclusive full-color photos of the cast, sets and locations and is the ultimate companion to the movie which hits theaters November 20th.
2. TwilightTheMovie.Com: This site needs Flash, version 10 to enjoy. It’s a very pretty site.
3. StephenieMeyer.Com: I love this site, for the other author book recommends that Stephenie Meyer writes about too. She’s a really humble literary bird. At the moment she recommends reading: and by Elizabeth Knox. You just get the feeling with Stephenie Meyer, that she wants other really good authors to have the same success that she’s had. What a honey!
4. IMDB.Com: This website is the online industry bible in Hollywood, of who does what in film. Casting agents, all producers and directors refer to IMDB every day. Why I like it, is because IMDB has a message thread board, and many Twilight Fans comment on it, as to who and what should be in the future Twilight Saga films.
It does require a membership to have full access, but it’s so worth it, if you want to know what’s going on in Hollywood from an industry perspective. IMDB is also Twilight Eclipse actor, Robert Pattinson’s favorite website, along with the New York Times.
5. HisGoldenEyes.Com: You have to give creds to a fan website, that has become an official website of Summit Entertainment’s marketing team to use and do promotions through. That’s quite a feat for the creator of His Golden Eyes.Com to achieve. Why I like it, is because they are up to date and more current than any other Twilight Saga related site available.
Today HisGoldenEyes features this pic of Xavier Samuels snogging Bryce Dalls Howard (the girl who replaced Rachelle Lefevre) on set of the filming of Eclipse. Also, they sell their own merchandise too, like a “Bite Me Edward” tee shirt for screaming Twilight teen fan girls. They’re making money off Stephenie Meyer, and they’re doing it the best. Nice!
6. Twilighters.Org: Is a crazy fansite, dedicated to updates and news tips about the cast and crew. It also borrows heavily from Twilight’s branding, sticking to the color palate of Summit entertainment for their own website face. Today, it’s looking pretty good, plugging the New Moon Board Game. Stephenie Meyer loves anyone whose doing her work for her and selling her hot stuff, so I’ve got to give Twilighters.Org a shout out today for that! Nice one guys and girls! They are very similar to His Golden Eyes, borrowing a lot off their competitors. But still love them anyway!

8. TwilightGuy.Com: Any guy who says he’s not a Twilight fan, goes to TwiCon, and has this crazy website, is funny enough, to be an interesting Twilight News reporter in our book. Nice one Twilight Guy! Oh, and he’s also writing his own novel. Smart.
9. TwilightLexicon.Com: was dubbed by Stephenie Meyer as being “the brightest star in the Twilight online universe.” Anyone who knows what a lexicon is in the first place and sets up a website called that, deserves a spotlight today.
10. ETOnline.Com: All Twilight Saga websites benefit hugely from those rare and exclusive TV interviews with Twilight Saga stars. When New Moon and Eclipse is being filmed, it is Entertainment Tonight (ET) who is the largest entertainment news show in America who gets these exclusive interviews first. Websites and bloggers can’t do it alone, so ETonline.Com get a special mention for bringing the expensive TV component to keeping the Twilight fans happy all year round.
