Actor Elijah Wood has signed onto the cast of Sky1′s adaptation of Treasure Island. The Lord Of The Rings superstar will appear as Ben Gunn in Robert Louis Stevenson buccaneering, swashbuckling classic adventure tale being filmed in Puerto Rico.
Toby Regbo (Harry Potter) who plays Young Dumbledore, is stepping up to play the lead in Treasure Island as Jim Hawkins, while Eddie Izzard plays the villain appearing as Long John Silver.
The cast includes: Phillip Glenister (Ashes To Ashes, Life On Mars) as Captain Smollet, 
Rupert Penry-Jones (Spooks) as Squire Trelawney, Daniel Mays (Made In Dagenham) as Dr Livesey and David Harewood and Keith Allen as pirates Bones and Pew.
Shirley Henderson (Harry Potter) will play Hawkins’s mother, while Nina Sosanya (Love Actually) is cast as Silver’s wife.
Treasure Island, will be broadcast at Christmas. Feel good entertainment all round with a hot broadcast date.
A good transition for Woods who is proven box office hobbit Hollywood treasure – spreading his star wings over other actors as a young star maker. Good stuff!
Isn’t it remarkable how a white man who spent time living with Polynesian people created this hot trend that’s still going in entertainment circles of the world. Will any real Polynesians be cast in decent paying roles in this story? Hope so!!! It’s a new world. Love this TV story idea.
