ARIANNA HUFFINGTON SELLS HER BLOG TO AOL FOR US$315 MILLION IN POST SUPER BOWL NEWS, NEW YORK TIMES

[Todays true fact - Hillary Clinton has worked so hard for America, she's been on the road 165 days in her first two years of office. Wow!]

On the cover of The New York Times today (like most major newspapers in the US) the front page rhetoric is Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers Team’s Super Bowl football win, juxtaposed against “Egypt vows new protest news” with wait…. this caught me by suprise a major IT or Online information-sharing company’s news story too.

The latter big IT story (of two major ones covering papers) today, is that Arianna Huffington of The Huffington Post is selling her blog (not website, but blog) to AOL for $315 Million. $300 million to be paid in cash and $15 million in stock. AOL hopes to ‘gain readers and increase profit from online ads.’ AOL seeks to reach 100 million new visitors with Arianna’s golden taste of news and snobby tone – that America’s intelligentsia seems to think is US.

So much so, that Ms Huffington is kinda getting married to AOL. In a corporate merger kind of way of twinsy-like ‘finished sentences.’ That romance goes a little like this – “Arianna Huffington, the cable talk show pundit, author and doyenne of the political left, will take control of all of AOL’s editorial content as president and editor in chief of a newly created Huffington Post Media Group. The arrangement will give her oversight not only of AOL’s national, local and financial news operations, but also of the company’s other media enterprises like MapQuest and Moviefone.

DREW BARRYMORE, ANGELINA JOLIE – WEB DESIGNER MARK FRANCOEUR TALKS STARS WHO OWN THEIR DARK PASTS

While I was starbucksing & blogging last night in Hollywood, Mark Francoeur came up to me and introduced himself. A Chicago native originally, Mark is a web designer only dealing in interior designers web site.

Of the topics Mark shared, he says his favorite three stars in Hollywood are Drew Barrymore, Angelina Jolie and Britney Spears (of course!). Mark likes these ladies because “they all had dark pasts, but they never tried to hide it. They just put it out there so other people could find hope in their life stories and Hollywood journeys.”

A good thought. Mark’s worked with Britney who he says “I said to her, your best work comes from that raw, emotional dark spaces of your own life.” Brit Brit thanked Mark for the suggestion to keep going down that track and sharing it.

Of Angelina, Mark says “it was only when she traveled to see real suffering people in the world – that she realized her own dark suffering was largely self-inflicted and that she had this amazing opportunity to do something for real people with suffering beyond their control.’ When Jolie had this epiphany, she revolutionized the star system.

Of Drew Barrymore, Francoeur says “she’s just so sweet.” Having met Drew once too at Birds Cafe at Franklin Village and sitting next to her at dinner after watching Mo Collins one woman show at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade theater next door when I was her publicist, I have to agree – Drew Barrymore is sooooooooooooo sweet! Tequila shot, lime and Mexican was how she rolls with her entourage of 20 tattoo-ed friends – all younger than her. She is just so gracious and a very wise woman.

Alright, Mark’s biz card appears on wood above. If you need a good web designer, this brother is deep in heart with an aesthetic eye like few other graphic designers. Check him out. Mark says “I really, really miss Chicago’s restaurant culture – it rocks.” Yep, I’ve heard all about those famous Chicago zucchini fries Team Oprah loves at Christmas parties in Chicago. The Italian restaurants are world renowned in Chicago. Mark is based in West Hollywood on Croft.
