7 THINGS – HOLLYWOOD – 3.30.11 @ 8.30pm

Mason Disick shines as a tot whose not camera shy. And Kris says kids should be “working at 13 with real jobs.” Hers she says have been. Read the story at Oh No They Didn’t!

Seven things we’re sharing in Hollywood in this moment are -

1. Fighter jets nondisclosure & Canada’s government topples

2. Wendi Murdoch steps up to make Hollywood more relevant

3. Hell – The Rugby World Cup is going to be good this year

4. Jeremy Irons new TV series intrigues to date

5. Learning from 1975 ethics leaders in the nuclear energy & electricity department

6. IT guru, Kevin Kelly talks “flow” as a key trend of IT convergeance – with paid access

7. Lionel Richie & Guy Sebastian will remake a classic for a good city in recovery

Seriously though, Kris’ point is parents creating jobs for their kids, who then create jobs for others is a guaranteed way to help an economy out. For example Kim employs a bunch of people in Hollywood with her online marketing endeavors in fashion accessories etc. They’re an industry employing locals here in Cali.

For that the Kardashians have a point. Families have to make it happen. This lot are.

Nor has she determined who will design The Dress. “I will be part of designing my own wedding gown. We might elope if it gets to that point. We’re very relaxed,” she says. “It takes a lot to get us stressed out. We talk through everything. You’ll see him off in the corner, and what’s Eric doing? He’s just meditating.”

Cover Awards adds, ‘Simpson also tells the publication she plans to one day add a cosmetics, skin care, menswear, home furnishings and jewelry to her already $1 billion fashion empire.’

GYPSY No. 5 FASHION RETAIL BILLBOARD ART USA, MISS TESSA PORTRAIT AND FIVE THINGS

Alright today in Hollywood I notice that Gypsy no.5 pins its fashion retail sales hopes on a ‘white horse’ billboard. The photograph was snapped against grey sky backdrops on La Cienega and Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood CA 90069. Good luck to Gypsy no.5 with this marketing lead, a tribute (perhaps) to violet-days of National Velvet Hollywood cinematic history as well as emerging world trends. Cute billboard marketing.

We also celebrate today with an art portrait snapped by Kiwi-American artist-fashion emerging star, Miss Tessa. Hopefully I’m forgiven for sharing this picture as blogging on a budget Hollywood paparazzi-o today. :) Probably not! However, sharing is art so I’m going with it. I first saw Miss Tessa creating artwork when she was 16. Her work was a giant mural for dyslexia awareness, so she’s a good one. Art for good causes is not a bad start in the art world. A charity benefitted from Miss Tessa’s first exhibited work. She exhibited at a cross-cultural red carpet film event depicting Latino actors being filmed in Christchurch, Canterbury – the Garden City.

Years later this city would be struck tragically by earthquake devastation. Both Russell Crowe and supermodel Rachel Hunter offer commentary on how to help this city.

Anyway here’s 5 things you’re looking in Hollywood on a day where California said farewell to a legend in Dame Elizabeth Taylor being laid to rest beside Michael Jackson. These five things are -

1. Dita Von Tesse‘s twitter couture for Marie Claire Russia is out there

2. Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie film make together offshore for a change.

3. Movie script premise, conspiracy theory spooky humor – World Bank and US

4. Black racism by Miami police needs a word in oil slicked recovering Miami

5. Basketball fans humor – All Stars Unite – Kobe Bryant, Jay-Z & Beyonce

BIJAN’S OIL CULTURE RECOGNITION – FASHION, SPEED – BUGATTI CARS, GULFSTREAM JET AIRCRAFTS

Bijan take great pleasure today in running a front page banner ad on the Los Angeles Times.

Love it or not, the purpose of the ad is to denote the sexiness of ‘fashion & speed’ namely in the form of the Gulfstream jet aircraft (you should have one of these!) and if you’re in the market too the bugatti limited edition by Bijan is also pitted as being hot property to own as well.

I love the website’s music at bijan.com. Listen.

PETRA NEMCOVA’S LIFE EXPERIENCES INSPIRE TODAY – 3.12.11

“[Simon Atlee's] favorite saying was, ‘The day without laughter is a day wasted,’ ” she said. “He was so kind and so respectful for people. He loved people. He loved life… Just water rolling and rolling, and when you close your eyes, just water…People were running away and screaming…It was just so … surrealistic… Then the water flooded the bungalow and pulled us outside in seconds… Simon was just saying, ‘Petra, Petra, what’s going on?’… I was was swept into a current of debris… In that moment, the power of the water was bringing all the fallen trees, all the broken buildings and all the wood. It was such a strong current, you couldn’t do anything. You just had to go with it”–says Petra Nemcova, a Tsunami survivor who lived by clinging to a palm tree for eight hours and praying for others. Sadly her boyfriend Simon Atlee did not survive the Tsuami.

A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE IS STILL A ROSE IS STILL, AROSE

Fashion via the runways of Paris this week as depicted in the New York Times today with just the photo caption “rose necklace on Gazar.” Designer, I don’t know.

I realize too that some Maori artists are doing amazing work, about roses being totally overrated right now. I don’t want to discredit the importance of their work.

Yet, I like this fashion image (as blurry as it is) too.

NEW GAGA, WANAKA STUDENTS DO GOOD, KEVIN MEALAMU – AND SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS SHARES – 3.3.11

COOL KIDS OF THE WORLD AWARDS MUST GO TO Wanaka’s Mt Aspiring College today. Via Otago Daily Times we read how “Pupils formed a heart on the school field yesterday during a fundraiser for victims of the Christchurch earthquake.

“The pupils wore the Canterbury colours of red and black, raising $3900 during the mufti day, organised by the school’s student council. A year 13 Enterprise group, EFF-X, is also planning to produce “I love Christchurch” T-shirts in a further fundraising effort. Among the many Wanaka businesses and residents who also took part in yesterday’s fundraising campaign were Print It, which developed “We Care” posters in red and black for shop windows, and Wanaka Paper Plus, which decorated its premises in red and black and also collected donations.”

As I blog, Donny, a muzo, songwriter, 24, who wears the coolest hats ever, very French, tells me he’s tired of the American music scene. “It’s all about pop stars taking trending words on google and setting them to tunes. Then they get popular. When a politician needs them, they perform for them. Music is so jacked right now. It’s not authentic. The people getting rewarded are carrying messages for the powers that be in music. That’s not American music.” Oops! Donny has a lot on his mind today. But he does make a point. Authentic art, should come from artists hearts. Right?! Thanks Donny.

WHAT IS PREJUDICE by NATALIE HERSHLAG for JOHN GALLIANO

Writes Michael K - New York’s reigning Gossip Blog King: “Oscar winner and the soon-to-be mother of Einstein’s successor, Natalie Portman, finally got her pregnant ass off the Oscar stage and plucked a few hairs off of Galliano’s lip brows by condemning him in a statement she released to The New York Times last night. Natalie is the face of Miss Dior Cherie fragrance and was supposed to wear Dior to the Oscars, but switched to Rodarte after Galliano was detained in Paris for making Mel Gibson’s nipples salute him by throwing out anti-Semetic insults at a couple. And after watching the video of Galliano declaring that he loves Hitler, Natalie said this:

“I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.””

Natalie raises the question, what is prejudice to [and for] Mr Galliano and friends in this comment also. Smart press. Needless to say, ‘How do you create a Jewish Saint with an Oscar? Galliano (wittingly/ unwittingly) playing a Hamon-villain of Queen Esther’s people, no matter which way you look at this news story is like win/win publicity with a message that cuts both ways.

On a serious note though, saying to a person in the fashion world, “the opposite of all that is beautiful” is one heck of a way to slay an ego of a fashionista who should know better–if this is ‘serious news.’ How wise is Portman, with such a retort. Very 770.

As a reminder, here’s how Auschwitz is being remarketed to a new generation, as a benchmark of human rights awareness in this story featured below. Just like Hollywood movies need to be retaught to the kids, even more so–Auschwitz does too. As a reminder, we have Oskar Schindler‘s list on this blog too.

Update:The NY Times say the House of Dior have fired John Galliano over these comments. In a statement the Haus says: “I condemn most firmly the statements made by John Galliano which are a total contradiction with the essential values that have always been defended by the House of Christian Dior.”

Maybe Natalie can extend forgiveness in this moment to John, as the message has been received by half the world? Oh well, I guess that’s her call to make.

[For the words, thanks Michael K]

LEZA CORBAN SINGS US THROUGH TODAY’S MIDDLE EAST OIL NEWS AND TEN POPULAR NEWS BITES – 2.25.11

Leza Corban is a songstress who is a master at jazz singing. She can sing anything though. Click on above pic to hear Corban sing. Leza also has worked for many other recording artists, including The Strawpeople and Debbie Harwood. Here’s a classic Kiwi lounge tune called Scared of Flying. It’s what we listen to, in our down time with gorgeous beach and rural views on weekends.

In World news via the New York Times, a big budget Hollywood movie’s wardrobe department could not have found better distressed denim jeans (made in Los Angeles) to put on Libyan rebels, photographed here rather fashionably defying Qaddafi troops at Tripolis border in this pic with rockets and guns. If you’re going to die, you may as well look good, right? This photo is a bit odd, actually. Very fashionable rebel lads, I must say.

Of course, Colonel Kadafi’s latest appearance has again, for the fourth decade running now, managed to adjust global economies and push the price of oil up. How does he manage to do that by being a grumpy grandad, presented to Western Media to explain oil price hikes. Because he’s a ‘foreign face’ in the “West’ we just excuse it as ‘crazy Middle East behavior.’ We shouldn’t, when he’s acting for others. But that has been his gig for forty years now. Pretty much.

The US is further along in the big disappearing act in Afghanistan now with troops being withdrawn more and more – while the NY Post floats the rather naive journalistic concept of the USA picking “the winners of the Mid East’s new line up.” The cheek! It was always going to be the Monarch nations who were the winners. But they do make Presidents of nations look like puppets of Monarchy, in this trade off of wealth acquisition (oil hikes) for giving their people ‘democracy’ Western style. They cheapen the political world with these antics. Gotta love the front page of The Times today. It’s a little rich. Very ‘Wall Street’ is the tone of the article who are some of the most oil addicted/ dependent people in the world (like many of us as well), with how this news effects stock market bearings and outcomes.

In particular, this is the verbage penned by Helene Cooper on the matter of whose winning via the Mid East oil/ ‘revolution’ show – “As the Obama administration grapples with a cascade of uprisings in the Middle East, it has come to a stark recognition: the region’s monarchs are likely to survive; its presidents are more likely to fall.

Helene continues – “In the rapidly changing map that stretches from Morocco to Iran, two presidents have already tumbled: Hosni Mubarak of Egypt and Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali of Tunisia. Administration officials said they believe that Yemen’s authoritarian president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, is in an increasingly tenuous position.

Yet in Bahrain, King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa has so far managed to weather a surge of unrest, winning American support, even though his security forces were brutal in their crackdown of protesters. Officials believe that King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia is also unlikely to be dethroned, while the emirs of the Persian Gulf have so far escaped unrest. Even in Jordan, where serious protests erupted, King Abdullah II has maneuvered deftly to stay in power, though he still has to contend with a restive Palestinian population.”

Monarchs sit pretty and all the rest is distraction, pretty much.

The US however talks imposing ‘unilateral sanctions to deter Libya’ while the other oil family, The Bushes of Texas with good Saudi ties, cancels a scheduled public appearance because ‘appearing with Julian Assange of Wikileaks together at the same venue is the reason given for the cancelled speaking gig.’ Fair enough, but Aussie’s aren’t that scary. Or are they? A Saudi student in Texas is arraigned and arrested in a bomb plot at the exact same time. Bloggers apparently love talking about this. Why, I don’t know!

The people of Bahrain want more changes. Is their internet too slow? This is ridiculous! :)

BEYONCE DOES BLACKFACE AS A FELA KUTI OF NIGERIA HOMAGE, VIA L’OFFICIEL MAGAZINE

Beyonce Knowles has darkened her face with a “blackface” historical reference, as art in a photoshoot for L’Officiel Paris magazine’s 90th anniversary issue.

A statement issued by the magazine factually states that the entertainer’s latest artistic endeavor via this photo shoot is “a return to her African roots, as you can see on the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened.”

Her work is intended to be a tribute to the Nigerian musician of the Cool Cats group and human rights activist Fela Kuti, born of Abeokuta, Nigeria. Fela is the subject of a Broadway musical as well.

Like Beyonce’s Josephine Baker tribute of the past with her De Ja Vu performances in big shows of entertainment, like Fashion Rocks showcase shows, I love this artistic endeavor too. Hot!
