Hollywood Legend, Karl Malden has passed away. The good news… he was 97!
My favorite films of his, I watched at The Auckland University’s Department of English and Film, Television & Media Studies (a fine film school!) in New Zealand. If anyone wants to go and study in beautiful Oscar winning New Zealand, I thoroughly recommend it to learn about films made all around the world.
By far my favorite film, was when Karl played Mitch, in A Streetcar NameD Desire, with Marlon Brando. It exemplified how an actor who is not THE BIG NAME STAR with all of THE BIG HOLLYWOOD LOOKS, can really add shade and depth of emotion to a film script and story, when his role, he brilliantly plays. KARL MALDEN was AMAZING! There is no horrendous tragedy in his story. Malden’s story IS 100% a celebration of a Hollywood legend and a good man.
”I was so incredibly lucky,” Malden once told The Times. “I knew I wasn’t a leading man. Take a look at this face.” But, he vowed as a young man, he wasn’t going to let his looks hamper his ambition to succeed as an actor. And that Malden did, so well.
The calibre and stamina of stars like Karl Malden are rare in Hollywood. He deserves to be celebrated jubilantly today.
Like Michael Jackson, Karl Madden also hailed from Gary, Indiana. To read more of this inspiring actor and the spirit of the man go to the L.A. Times. Or.. if you’re a budding actor watch him in any of his films. He ran a good race! RIP.
