W Magazine must value the “art of celebrity” as the highest form of all arts, because they selected Kim Kardashian to be their cover girl, for W’s “Art’s Issue.”
A reality TV fame artist? Kim got in the spirit of art, and went nude covered in silver body paint. Here’s one pic of that shoot, via The Blemish.
I perhaps would have gone for Solange Knowles. But Kim did the job well enough, raising questions of ‘what is art?’ if Kardashian is on this cover. Is ‘being famous’ enough of an American artfrom to be warranted an artist? I guess it is. Amusing? or Out of her league in an arts issue publication?
As Art – this is a fierce picture if you think of how throughout the centuries women have been painted nude, by the best artists in the world. This pic is pretty up there, in referencing that tradition. Kardashian says “I am art.”
In going nude but covered, she says: “The reality I create of family for TV, is my art. And that takes more committment, than just being famous.” She implies her art of ’reality TV family’ is about a family exposed to the camera’s flaws and all, as if naked, except they’re clothed. Or ‘Kardashian modern family, is just as risque as any other modern family being offered to America.’
