“We’re at war, our economy has lost seven million jobs the last two years and our government is deeply in debt after what can only be described as a decade of profligacy“–President Barack Obama explaining his new budget.
Profligacy = “The state of completely being given up to dissipation and licentiousness (‘lacking legal or moral restraints; especially : disregarding sexual restraints, marked by disregard for strict rules of correctness);’ wildly extravagant.”
Wow! What a word. If you look at ancient kingdoms at war, profligacy goes hand in hand with war. Simply because war is not always about ‘protect,’ war is also about going into battle for the spoils of war. In that motivation, there is always an element of profligacy involved. Nice to see a President try and manage this differently though. Full credit to Obama for that.

‘Create and increase jobs’ is one of the reasons sited for this particular budget.
Energy. Education and Veterans Affairs all get a big boost in this budget. As a society can be judged on how well we treat our children and elderly (the two ends of societies spectrum)–that’s not a bad result. It still favors a heavy war narrative though, (more profligacy ensured); but the changes show a shift in where America is heading under Obama’s governance. I like the education part –in the sciences especially. That’s hot.
