President Barack Obama returns from China and Asia after ten days out of American shores, to discover that his approval rating has dipped.

These two quotes from The New York times, gives us a clue as to why:

“Two new public-opinion polls showing that [President Obama's] approval rating has dipped below 50 percent for the first time. To many of his critics, who chafed as Mr. Obama enjoyed broad support among Americans even though many were critical of his handling of specific issues like the economy, this erosion is a tipping-point, the end of Mr. Obama’s perceived near-invulnerability.

“Separate surveys by Gallup and by Quinnipiac University at the end of the week each showed Mr. Obama’s job approval rating slipping below 50 percent for the first time: 49 percent in the Gallup poll and 48 percent in the Quinnipiac poll. A CBS News poll earlier in the week put it at 53 percent; that poll found that 49 percent of respondents approved of his handling of the economy, down from 54 percent in October, and 43 percent disapproved of his handling of the war in Afghanistan.”

Clearly, the unemployment rates plus the President’s inherited war portfolio and how he is managing war are two issues that have many Americans out of  favor with the President’s new direction of Presidency. As Obama inherited the worst deficit in American treasury known ever, I think he’s doing a great job.

Let’s try and be more encouraging of Obama’s efforts … if we can be. Peace.
