L.J Smith The Vampires Diaries

L.J Smith wrote The Vampires Diaries books 14 years before Stephenie Meyers published the Twilight Saga books.

If there’s any similarities, should the L.J Smith team sue?

Probably not, there are no  new ideas under the sun, just recycled ideas, so let’s hope L.J Smith’s camp don’t get sue happy. This is a pic of LJane Smith.

Woah! L.J Smith hearts the trippy world of the unicorn forrest. Let’s just say, hat she’s totally out there, as this pic depiction on her website shows! Scary!!!

Perhaps it shows that slightly eccentric peeps  have a lot to offer the world by way of hit book series.

just saying, I read twilight first and i love it. but whenni was reading the vampire diaries I just hated it. and that really shocked me because I normally love books like that. I just realy didn’t like a lot about it. I felt it was written terribly, and I hated elenna she was just an awful protagonist for me. I couldn’t get into it because of that. I stopped reading it, and I’ll probably try again, but either way I prefer twilight. though I admit the similarities at sone parts are just ridiculous, but hey, that does happen sometimes. I just got into twight more, the characters just seem more connectable to me.

  3. Becky says:

I read Vampire Diaries ages ago, as a teen, and completely fell in love with the books. I read and re-read them and when Twilight first came out I didn’t think I would like them. But I got caught up in the craze, like everyone else and read those books too. Not as well written as Vampire Diaries. I’ll still go see the movies and all. I think Vampire Diaries would have been better as a movie and the Twilight books as a series on TV. I’m not happy with what’s been done on the TV show either. It’s like they took her books and butchered them. No one’s really how they’re supposed to be except maybe Damon. Oh, well. I’ll still watch. Out of solidarity for LJ.

  4. Angel says:

I love the books Vampire Diaries. I agree the show is good but way off from the book. I can not beleive that they are so different but love to watch it anyway. These are books that I can read over and over again.

  5. Lizzy says:

Twilight its awesome crative and better than the Vampire diaries.isnt it a coincidence how they started filming for the vampire diaries as soon as twilight was in theathres???anyone notice that.i always have been a twilight fan and always be one NOTHING CAN CHANGE MY STATEMENT.team edward!!!!!!the twilight series is the best.some people dont know a good novels and they hit them right in the face twilight is the BEST!!!AND STEPHANIE MEYER IS THE BEST.THANK GOD STEPHANIE MEYER HAD THAT DREAM

    • Ayu says:

wow well yes that is a coincedence….but here’s another one, Vampire Diaries got published 14 YEARS before twilight. :) And yes I do agree some people don’t know when a good novel hits them. (some people including you)

  6. Traci says:

ALL of L.J Smith’s books are superior to anything Stehanie Meyer has ever written. Ask Stehanie Meyer if she read L.J’s books before she wrote her twilight series and if she said “no” she’d be a complete lier. Don’t get me wrong we all get our inspiration from somewhere but her writting ability is not equal to that of L.J

Stehanie’s books lack character development (which is what makes L.J’s books so appealing). I consider all the Twilight books except the first two to be absolutely boring.

Doesn’t matter whether it was a coincidence or not that the VD is filming on the heels of Twilight, the point is the VD is simply much better material than that of which Twilight is made of. Also the VD actors are much better than the actors in Twilight.

Ian Somerholder does an amazing Damon, a very difficult character to play. Edward Cullen is Stephen Salvatore all over again and RP is not required to do much acting, he sort of just stands there and looks throughout all the Twilight movies (boring).

HORIWOOD: Thanks for your insightful and well read commentary. Also your ability to share your knowledge through comparing and contrasting.

Marshall McLuhen once famously said “the medium is the message” to define the mediated age in which we live. Stephenie had much better marketing, that’s why- although her characters lack the appeal of L.J Smiths novel characters, she put flesh to her characters in the retelling of a Romeo & Julie styed love story. Today – she is the Queen of Vampires and L.J Smith as yet is not.

I love the vampire diaries. I think Kevin Williamson and team did an amazing job in adapting these books to the small screen.

  7. Leah says:

I have just finished the awakening in the vampire diaries series… And I found it to be good, hard to put down after you read halfway through… But i’m sorry its no-where near as addictive as twilight. Since finding out just now that L.J Smith had written her book 14 years before stephanie myer wrote twilight, I respect her alot for creating the original ideas behing the vampire craze teens like me are obsessed with. But I still think Twilight is definately written better. For the moment its team edward. However, after the struggle it may be team salvadore… You never know!

  8. Harry Potter FOREVER! says:

I can’t see the reason for some people to be so obsessed with the Twilight Saga. Harry Potter is more me.
