No surprise here. Harry Potter is the king of movie going hearts worldwide, proving that book series becoming film series, is the way of the future.
THR: “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” the sixth installment of Warner Bros.’ multi-billion-dollar franchise and the boxoffice elephant on the table over the weekend, opened a commanding No. 1 on the foreign circuit with $237 million grossed over it first five days.
The tally represents the biggest five-day opening launch overseas ever, according to Vernonika Kwan-Rubinek, president of Warner’s international distribution. She also said the film recorded the second biggest opening ever in the U.K.
Disney’s “Pirates of the Carribean: At World’s End,” which opened May 23, 2007, drew $218.4 million in its first five days. A sixth day (Memorial Day 2007) pushed that tally to $251.1 million. “Spider-Man 3″ also opened in May 2007, recording a five-day figure of $203.4 million, as per Sony. Its six-day opening figure was $232.8 million.
