Gosh… funny Jewish boy, Sacha Baron Cohen, put Perez Hilton’s gay attention-seeking grandstanding to shame this week, when the straight boy, rocked out doing MILITARY GLITTERATI at the LA premiere of Bruno.
I quite like that term, Military Glitterati… it’s both fierce and hilarious at the same time! Lady Gaga’s disco stick, has got nothing on Bruno’s disco ball tank! This dude’s got vision as he takes on the blockbuster, Transformers 2, at the box office with gusto.
Sacha Baron Cohen is just ridiculous, aint he? lol! :) [source]

Sacha Baron Cohen should be the best. The only problem is the moral dilemma that his movies fuel those who are racist and homophobic (and do not get the movies are making fun of them) with more jokes. I don’t believe he should have to change his material but it is just unfortunate that the movies do cause harm.
You’re right.
I think Sacha Baron Cohen, by appropriating another’s culture (Ali G = hip hop culture, Bruno = gay culture, etc) gives Sacha a controversial vehicle to shine. Even/ or especially at the expense of the culture he’s appropriated for his own gain and profile.
That’s the ‘harmful’ aspect, that you speak of in what he does, as audiences read what they like into stereotypes, and SBC wins on both sides of the fence. He’s pretty clever.
His narratives are a whole lot of slap stick scenes, partly scripted and partly ad-libbed in the moment, revolving around classic cliches of a particular culture. Like a string of laugh-inducing skits or scenes strung together he hopes to shock, or induce laughter… to tell an overall storyline… one laugh at a time.
We laugh (or not) at his films, depending on what his slant was on the cliche and what side of the fence we’re on. Laughter is good, it’s a sign something is being acknowledged even if we don’t know why we’re laughing (or even angry) about what he does in his films. I guess he creates talking points, for us all to talk about… and honest dialogue is the basis of true democracy.
Really, Sacha’s doing it for the big pay check, as he’s really doing ‘The Life On The D List Show’ ‘reality TV styles’ in one of his films/ except he’s not playing Kathy Griffin, he’s playing ‘Bruno’… but he gets a massive film pay check, not a reality TV one.
It’s kinda smart. And he’s got the backing of the Jewish sector in Hollywood, who applaud his smarts and have got his back, when it comes to sympathetic press, media exposure and marketing. He can’t fail here!
BTW… I dig your website. It’s vintage with modern wit. You’re too kool 4 skool. Rock on!
