When you’re busy, you don’t want to do interviews all the time. You just want to live your life and let other people talk about you. This is the case, for the world’s #1 woman, Angelina who graces the cover of July’s Harper’s Bazaar Magazine.
Angelina who turned 34 last Thursday allowed herself to be critiqued by feminist author Naomi Wolf instead. Wolf’s essay studies the fact that “women both identify with her and desire her.”
Highlights of Naomi Wolf’s interview are:
It’s “more than simply a physical response,” Wolf says. Jolie “brings together almost every aspect of female empowerment and liberation.”
Jolie has proved that women can be viewed as a symbol of goodness as well as being a sex symbol.
Her headlines have transitioned from “eccentric” behavior, which included “slightly icky” smooch sessions with Billy Bob Thornton (she famously wore a vial of his blood around her neck) and kissing her brother on the lips at the 2000 Oscars. ”At that point, Jolie seemed to be simply an attention-seeking, slightly Goth upstart.”
Adopting son, Maddox in 2002, was Jolie’s turning point. She since became a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees. ”Jolie revealed a new, and fairly radical, vision of single motherhood.
After the Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston split scandal broke at the launch of Mr & Mrs Smith, her film with Brad, “she managed the almost unheard-of task of turning the home-wrecker label into a wholesome, family-friendly triumph.”s
Jolie also broke barriers by learning to fly. ”Flying a private plane is the classic metaphor for choosing your own direction; usually, that is a guy thing to do, yet there was Jolie, with her aviator glasses on, taking flying lessons so she could blow the mind of her four-year-old son,” writes Wolf.
Her rainbow family is “a delicious in-your-face countermove against conventions about who we are to one another and what ‘family’ is expected to look like… She seems, without breaking stride, to care for half a football team of children while the rest of us tread water with our own biological offspring.”
The thing we love the most about Angelina Jolie on Horiwood.Com is that with each new achievement and tier of success that she reachers, she immediately turns it into advocacy for people disadvantaged by politics, war and false promises of hope.
She’s an action woman at the movies and also as a humanitarian thinking quickly on her feet on behalf of others.
Do you agree? And that’s one of the best cover story interviews ever, by the way! :)
