In a humbling speech that drew the heart of America to her side on Broadway, West Side story actress, Karen Olivo picked up her first Tony Award tonight for playing the role of Anita in West Side Story.
Olivo is a former Polk County resident Karen Olivo and a graduate of Lakeland’s Harrison Center for the Visual and Performing Arts . She won her award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical. Karen Olivo starred last year in the Tony Award-winning musical “In the Heights.’
The Tony Award winners were hosted by actor, Neil Patrick Harris and were announced at Radio City Music Hall in New York. The awards are televised on CBS.
