What brilliance in furthering Chinese and American relations. Chackie Chan, China’s most well know global star is teaming up with box office gold Will  Smith as producer, and his son Jaden Smith to remake The Karate Kid.

Jaden will play the main character, skateboard loving, video game crazy Dre, whose single mother relocates her family to China. As an outsider, who doesn’t know how to speak Chinese, Dre gets bullied and physically beaten because  of his difference.

Jackie Chan’s Li Quan Ha mentors Dre in the way of Kung-Fu. So perhaps the film will be renamed The Kung Fu Kid in the remake now. I think it’s brilliant, as America seeks to make inroads into China and vice versa. The Smith family give America that touch of Barack Obama-esque leadership, which Jackie Chan’s China totally digs. China also loves American hip hop music stars, big time.

I appreciate the way that Will Smith, is keeping the endearing spirit of cross-cultural exchange in the film’s mentor and young mentoree central characters, but now with a cultural exchange between two of the greatest nation’s on the earth.

It has #1 box office hit written all over it, already. A relevant and brilliant feel good collaboration.
