[image source] Well, I’ve gotta say it. I’m still reeling from shock that Nicolette Sheridan’s Edie got killed off on the Desperate Housewives Show. Wow!
Although I’m in shock, it seemed that 1.3 million Americans didn’t seem to care as much about Sheridan’s departure from the hit show. Contact Music reports that Sheridan’s departure episode, was 1.3 million below the average ratings for the series episode average. Which is very sweet, because no one, including me, wanted to see Edie go. She was the outsider who represented us all. Instead I watched the episode the next day when it was a little less shocking with a friend on Tivo, which does not count in ratings.
Says contact music: ‘Sheridan was cut from the show to cut costs, with show creator Marc Cherry admitting he had been put under “tremendous pressure” to scale down the series’ budgets.
The move didn’t sit well with the actress, who warned: “(Killing off Edie) was a risky decision that could have devastating ramifications.”‘
My favorite parts were these: a) the way she died by hitting a power pole… very satircal writing about Sheridan’s real perpetual run ins with the power creator of the show Marc Cherry, off-screen who despised Sheridan in the end.
My most favorite scene was when Edie and Gabrielle (Eva Longoria’s character) had a ‘whose the sexiest’ competition at a bar on a girlfriend’s night out together. The showdown was hysterical, as to who could get the blokes to buy each girl the most drinks. Although Longoria looked way better than Sheridan, (she was dressed in danger hot red, while Sheridan was dressed in gold) and Gabrielle got the most cocktail twizel sticks, you couldn’t help but love Sheridan for all of the sexy she had brought to Desperate Housewives.
I was left with the feeling, that Cherry played his sexiest card (Longoria) to justify his axing of Sheridan. It worked, but I also got the feeling that Longoria would have to carry more and more of the sexy appeal for the show. I know Longoria is up for it (for a price of course!) but it did make me miss Sheridan’s huge imput into the show. She was always cast as the outsider in the show, so it was sad to see Sheridan treated that way in the end by Edie’s creator Cherry.
It just goes to show that Creatives and Writers can’t always separate fact from fiction. At least Cherry was consistent though. And we wish Sheridan all of the best.
From Horiwood.Com… thanks Nicolette Sheridan for hours of entertainment and the joy you brought the world, playing yourself as Edie. Nice job!
