While its unfortunate that this incident is shining a spotlight on teen dating violence. 1 in 5 teens report being sexually or physically abused by a partner. Young women between the ages of 16 and 24 are more likely to be abused. Rihanna is 21. There’s an opportunity for a real conversation here. Talk to your children. Listen about how they feel about what happened and about Rihanna’s proported decision to reconcile with Chris Brown. Ask them why they believe how Brown’s record sales haven’t been affected. But most of all remind them that love isn’t supposed to hurt, except when someone breaks your heart!
